MTG – Dr. Who Comes To Magic: The Gathering In New Universes Beyond
Dr. Who and Magic: the Gathering are colliding headlong in a new Universes Beyond expansion due out later this year. Take a look at some spoilers!
The Doctor is coming to Magic: the Gathering. Which Dr.? Dr. Who. And though the good Doctor is not on first, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. In the new Universes Beyond: Dr. Who set, you’ll find a bunch of Commanders themed around and embodying the characters of Dr. Who.
Whether you’re a fan of the modern series, or prefer the campy, be-scarved older series, there’s something for every Whovian out there. What, you might be wondering? Well let’s find out.
Dr. Who x Magic: the Gathering
The Universes Beyond: Dr. Who set will feature four Commander decks. Each of the decks features fifty new cards. There are three different Doctor sets, plus one for the baddies. But first, Blast from the Past, seen above. Which features the first eight Doctors in Green, White, and Blue.
Each Doctor seems like they’d be a fantastic Commander, especially since you can have two Commanders if you have a Doctor and a Doctor’s Companion, seen above. This plays heavily into the next deck, the “Timey-Wimey” deck which showcases Doctors Nine, Ten, & Eleven. Fittingly it’s Red, White, and Blue, presumably because that’s the series that became popular in the good ol’ US of A.
While the Twelfth and Thirteenth Doctor feature heavily in the third deck, decked out in Green, Red, and Blue.
And of course there are the Masters of Evil, in Red, Black, and Blue. With a Who’s Who of Who Villains, this deck will live up to your fiendish heart’s content.
Though the real prize will be these landscapes that all feature a certain, iconic Police Call Box. And we get a closer look at some of the cards. As the TARDIS can jump between worlds, Planechase is back.
The Lux Foundation Library is here, waiting to add shadow counters. All of this is just your sneak peek. The actual first look is later this July, with the set launching on October 13th, unless time gets all wibbly-wobbly.
What do you think of Who?
