This ‘Full Metal Alchemist’ Alphonse Elric Cosplay Must Have Cost an Arm and a Leg
This Alphonse Elric cosplay looks so realistic that we’re starting to believe in the awesome power of alchemy.
Fullmetal Alchemist may just be my favorite anime of all time. At the very least it’s in the top three. And while some series age strangely or lose relevance, FMA only gets better with time and re-watches. Every character is well thought through and complex, every issue has multiple sides to consider, and of course, the fight scenes are incredible. I first fell for this series in 2004, and I’ll likely love it forever.
The series starts off with two brothers trying to reanimate their recently deceased mother with alchemy and paying a bit more than they anticipated with Ed losing an arm and a leg and his younger brother Alphonse, losing his entire body. After sealing Al’s soul in a suit of armor, the two go out into the world to try and figure out how to fix the whole ‘no body’ issue.
From there the series quickly expands into a series of international conflicts and almost unthinkably huge stakes. Both the original Fullmetal Alchemist and the more recent Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood have special places in my heart. But it’s hard to deny that FMA:B follows the manga more closely and well… makes more sense as it rounds its way into the final stretch.
Al Elric is a young boy stuck in a huge suit or armor, and while he looks threatening, he’s the sweetest of sweetie-pies. He’s a fan-favorite character for a reason. But it takes a certain kind of cosplayer to tackle making an entire suit of armor and a really skilled cosplayer to make it look amazing. And that’s just what KaidaCospaly does. Originally I visited her profile for this absolutely perfect Ed cosplay. But when I saw their Alphonse armor I knew it had to be a feature.

“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy’s first law of equivalent exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world’s one and only truth.”
“Dedication is a talent all on its own.”
“Oh this is perfect! Now my arm’s fallen off too! Today is a terrible day!”
