Travel in D&D can be an adventure unto itself. But these five magic items will help you fast travel when you need to.

Getting from here to there can be an adventure. After all, going there and back again was the entirety of a Hobbit’s tale. But, if you’re in a hurry? If you just need to get to the dungeon so you can pick up the macguffin you need to take down the boss who’s threatening your town? Then you might need to get there quickly.

That’s where these five magic items come in. With ’em, anyone can fast travel. Risks and conditions apply.

Helm of Teleportation

Magic hat, cast teleport. Pretty easy. You can, in fact, use this to teleport three times per day. This comes with all the usual caveats that teleport comes with:

  • You have to know where you’re going
  • You have to stay on the same plane of existence
  • You might mess up and end up somewhere else in the world

Korolnor Scepter

That’s why the Korolnor Scepter is a little better. Not only does it let you cast teleport, it also lets you cast other spells. You can use it to cast sending, to know where you are underground, or to teleport anywhere in the world. If you use it to travel somewhere near the Wyrmskull Throne you get there with no chance of an error or mishap occuring.

Cubic Gate

Let’s try and make it a little more accurate though. With a Cubic Gate, you can access six different planes of existence, including the Material Plane. With an action, you can use the Gate spell, which lets you open a magic portal to a “precise location on a different plane of existence.” You can also use it to plane shift anywhere if you need to as well. So for two charges, you can open up a portal to another plane, then open one back wherever you need on the Material Plane.

Robe of Stars

But if you need to get to more than one location on the Prime Material Plane in a day? You’ll have to game the system a little bit.

The Robe of the Stars can help. In addition to giving you a saving throw bonus, and the ability to cast magic missiles as a 5th-level spell up to six times per day, this robe lets you take an action to enter the Astral Plane.

Once you’re there, just use your Cubic Gate to get back home.

Amulet of the Planes

If you really need to get somewhere with a lot of people though, the Amulet of the Planes is one of the best ways to go many places in a single day. This amulet lets you cast Plane Shift, which gets you and your friends anywhere on any plane of existence without fail. As long as you can make a DC 15 intelligence check.

Fortunately, there’s no limit to how many times you can use this amulet per day. So you can keep trying until you get there.

Happy adventuring, wherever you end up!
