The actor’s role in Extraction 2 has been the subject of speculation–until now. This is going to be an amazing face-off.

The first movie introduces Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake, a black-market mercenary that’s hired to rescue the son of an imprisoned international crime lord from kidnappers. The mission teeters on impossible in the murky underworld of weapon and drug traffickers as the city around them shuts down and the forces against them close in. Somehow he manages to get out and live for another mission. It’s a non-stop action fest with some wild continuous shots and some great stunt performances.

In Extraction 2, Rake is tasked with rescuing the family of a ruthless gangster from inside a prison. Grab your coat… and some grenades. The first trailer kicked off with a chaotic, snow-filled prison riot where Rake is on fire. It doesn’t get into the story, but it gets the point across. If you love old-school, high-octane action movies this movie is for you. They literally lit Chris Hemsworth and a bunch of stunt performers on fire for that scene.

The latest clip starts with a tense vehicle chase and confirms Idris Elba involvement in the movie–it’s been rumored for a bit. I can only assume his character is the antagonist after this scene. Elba can be a fantastic villain.

My excitement for this was already pretty dang high and now they throw Elba in the mix. Makes me mad that this is relegated to the small screen. I wish they’d do at least a limited theater release with this franchise–big action should have a big screen.

Extraction 2 Cast & Details

Chris Hemsworth reunites with Golshifteh Farahani, who reprises her role as mercenary Nik Khan from the first film. The cast also includes Daniel Bernhardt, Sinead Phelps, Tinatin Dalakishvili, Adam Bessa,  Justin Howell, and Idris Elba.

Sam Hargrave is back in the director’s chair. You may not recognize his name, but you’re familiar with his work. Hargrave has been a stuntman for over 15 years and was Chris Evans’ stunt double all the way through the Infinity Saga. He was also on the stunt choreography team for Atomic Blonde (if you haven’t seen it, you should). The script is from Joe Russo (of the Captain America: Winter Soldier Russos) based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks.

After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

Extraction 2 hits Netflix on June 16th.
