Goatboy here with some 40K 10th Edition Meta hotness.  Named Characters are going to be a BIG DEAL in the new edition.

As you know I got a game in with 2 of the biggest jerks in Chaos 40K – Morty and Be’lakor.  Both of these monsters seem built to show up every time and it got me thinking. It feels like if your army has a crazy Special Named Character you will want to paint it up and use it.  Between all the stacks of auras, 40K rules they can pick during the battle round, and sheer powerful offensives abilities – the 40K named character is here to stay.  If you haven’t painted that big boss for your Death Guard you should probably go find one to use because getting that army to work needs Mortarion to get the most out of it.

Centerpiece Named Characters Are Back

Of course I am sure not all named Characters are good but lord. Be’lakor is a must-have for your Daemons just do the factor of keeping your guys protected from shooting.  Daemons saw a decent drop in their saves with most stuff sitting at a 5+ invulnerable save except for Tzeentch stuff.  Just being able to “shore up your protection” and still push your shadow up the field is important to how the Daemons work.

It is the same for Morty as well. He is tough as heck to remove, throws off some crazy Auras, and the re-rolls to his buddies nearby is just an important factor for the Death Guard.  It seems any “marque” unit that is big, tough, and moves quickly will be a centerpiece for your army.

I am sure Magnus will be bonkers as well. Plus all the other Primarchs will have a ton of loyal bros running around them and helping control the tabletop.  All of these things seem to really push the “hero” hammer aspects and while that can be a difficult thing to balance it does make the game well – feel like 40K.

All Hail Herohammer

Named Characters are what build these narrative stories in the game and having your big super chads wreck the tabletop is important to the grand theme of 40K.  Sheer destruction in the “future” as forces try to push their will onto the grimdark tabletop is a big part of the fun.

Don’t you think the Silent King is going to be a beast to deal with? How about the Avatar with a gorgeous new model ready to wreck the field as a fiery space elf daemon of destruction?  Ghazghull feels a bit different too – but you know you probably need him leading some Nobz out of a Battle Wagon with his little buddy Makari in tow.

I am guessing any character that can benefit friends and still be punchy will just always show up on the tabletop.  I think about all the sisters characters and how each of them will wreck stuff. Morvenn Vahl is just going to be wrecking things with her Nundom friends throwing out Melta fire into the ranks of heretics.

You Should Get Painting!

As I think about my CSM armies and if I could bring 30 Chaos Possessed again I know I have to look at that Abaddon sitting in a box all alone.  I will likely figure out some way to get him done, get some sweet looking Terminators set up, and get ready to ruin people’s day with his daemon weapon nonsense.  It just feels like he needs to show up again for the Goatboy to get his army churning and burning.

What characters are you wanting to see?  Does this Herohammer stuff worry you?  Do you think all of these punchy characters are going to wreck the table top too much?
