Summer Game Fest is upon us and with it comes announcements and gameplay!

Game conferences are exciting times for many because we get to see brand-new trailers or new gameplay shown off by developers. Normally around this time, E3 would have been what we all were waiting for. Unfortunately for the Entertainment Software Association, no company would commit to going to it this year. In fact, many of them decided to hold their own conferences next week by themselves. E3 is dead and rising to take its place is Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest.

The fest is only 3 years old but Geoff Keighley is an industry darling that everyone likes and is happy to work with. The first day has passed and let’s dig into the stuff we found the most interesting.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake may be a ways away but Ubisoft has something for those fans. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a brand new Metroidvania adventure that has players using special time powers against time-corrupted enemies and characters from myth. The site has a description for the game currently:

“Dash into a stylish and thrilling action-adventure platformer game set in a mythological Persian world where the boundaries of time and space are yours to manipulate.”

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is currently set for release on January 17th, 2024 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Amazon Luna

Mortal Kombat 1

Ed Boon went on stage to show off the gameplay for the new Mortal Kombat 1. The gameplay is a bloody great time and shows off returning characters Johnny Cage and Kenshi who were not in the other trailer. The gameplay also shows off some gameplay of all the other characters in the last trailer as well as some brutal fatalities.

Ed Boon also went on to talk about the Kameo Characters and how they can be used together with the player. They all look like their past outfits and look like they add a new layer to the game.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC

Sandland

Sandland is an incredibly short-lived manga by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama that is getting a movie soon. A video game adaptation was the last thing I expected from it since it was so short-lived. The game looks great but we’ll have to wait and see more about it.

“Dive into a desert world from the creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama!

Play as the Fiend Prince, Beelzebub, and set off on an adventure using your wits, brawn, and vehicles to save”

Sandland is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. TBA

Star Trek: Infinite

Star Trek: Infinite is a brand-new strategy game being developed by Nimble Giant Entertainment. The teaser only shows the Federation going to confront the Borg. Not much is known outside of that more will be shown on Picard Day, June 16th.

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando

John Carpenter has been talking about making games for a little while. Well, now we got a look at what he had in mind. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is a team FPS where the characters are tasked with eradicating a supernatural outbreak before it is too late.

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is planned to be available in 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on the Epic Games Store.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 was also shown with the 3-player co-op mode and looks fantastic. Bloody good time for any Warhammer 40K fan.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 comes out later in 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Pc

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, the latest in the long-running Yakuza series got a brand new trailer and description of the synopsis. The game looks like another great game in the series and will bridge the gap between Like a Dragon and the next game in the series.

“Once a legendary yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu faked his own death and abandoned his name for the sake of protecting his family. Now, he is thrust into conflict by a mysterious figure attempting to drive him out of hiding.

Under the codename “Joryu,” Kiryu embarks on a gripping action narrative with bone-shattering combat in vibrant locations filled with exciting characters and activities.”

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 9th

Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 was also talked about with one of the developers and some exciting info was confirmed such as a first true look at Venom with confirmation he is not Eddie Brock in the game. so odds are it is probably Harry this time around. He promises it isn’t something the comics or movies did but he didn’t mention cartoons where Harry was once Venom in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. The release date will be October 20th.

Spider-Man 2 will be released on PS5 on October 25th.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The final reveal is something Square Enix has been teasing for a while on their Final Fantasy VII Twitter Page: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The game is set to continue off the story after the heroes leave Midgard with hints that not everything is cut and dry as a straight remake.

The biggest surprise of all though is the game will be on 2 discs! That might not be a huge deal to some except games with that size on a disc used for PS5 are a big deal. The last game to have 2 discs was Red Dead Redemption 2!

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on PS5 in Early 2024

There are a ton more things shown off at Summer Game Fest and I recommend checking out anything we missed. Stay tuned because the month of June will be having a lot more game conferences soon.

Happy gaming!
