PlayStation game porting for everyone, except Bloodborne.

Insomniac Games is known for many things nowadays like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Resistance, and the original Spyro The Dragon trilogy. One of the most beloved franchises of theirs is the Ratchet & Clank series. Ratchet & Clank is an action-adventure platformer/shooter about a Lombax mechanic Ratchet and his “defective” robot friend Clank going around saving the universe from various evildoers using crazy fun weapons. The games were a huge hit with the first one released in 2002 and has a pretty sizable amount of sequels and spin-offs. It even got an animated movie in 2016 that retold the story of the first game.

The latest title in the series involved something that is incredibly popular right now: The Multiverse. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was released on the PS5 in 2021 and showed off the PS5’s power very early on with how fast environments would load in to give the chaotic sense of portals. The story is that Ratchet & Clank have been heroes for a long time and were being celebrated until Dr. Nefarious showed up to crash the party.

The ensuing fight causes them all to be sent to an alternate dimension where a much more competent Dr. Nefarious took over the universe with no Ratchet or Clank to stop him. The pair eventually meet what is most likely their counterparts, Rivet and Kit, and need their help getting back to their own world and stopping both Dr. Nefariouses to save the Multiverse. The game was a PS5 exclusive when released and it seems PlayStation is willing to share this one.

PC Port Gun

PlayStation has been much more relaxed on exclusivity lately with ports like God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Last of Us coming to PC. Sony posted a PlayStation Blog post to announce that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is now the latest title to be ported to PC. The port is being handled by Nixxes Software and will release on Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 26th. The new version of the game will also have new features for the PC release.

The new features of the PC version mentioned are:

  • Ray-traced reflections with a variety of quality levels to choose from and newly added ray-traced shadows for natural light in outdoor areas. This enables realistic shadows with natural gradients in softness.
  • Ultra-Wide Monitor support for 21:9, 32:9, and up to 48:9 resolutions for triple monitor setups. Both gameplay and cutscenes are optimized for ultra-wide screens.
  • Unlocked framerates, including the latest performance-enhancing upscaling technologies. Players will be able to choose from NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2, Intel XeSS, and Insomniac Games’ Temporal Injection. NVIDIA Reflex and image quality enhancing NVIDIA DLAA are also supported.
  • Mouse and Keyboard support on top of the normal controller support for the game

Pre-order Bonuses and Other Content

Players who pre-order the game on Steam or The Epic Games store will be given early access to both the Pixelizer Weapon and Carbonox Armor Sets for both Ratchet and Rivet. These are both unlockable in the game, so if you miss the pre-order you will not miss out on using them.

The PC port will also include the armor from the Digital Deluxe Edition of the PS5 version and the 20th Anniversary Armor pack with armor inspired by past games. All this makes it the most complete package of the game and as long as it works better than some other PC ports, it will be a great treat for fans who don’t have a PS5.

PlayStation sharing games from their exclusive library with PC players is a win-win for everyone and is always welcomed. Now if only they would release Bloodborne on PC.
