‘Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse’ Spider-Punk Closet Cosplay So You Can Crap On the Establishment
Hobie is hot for chaos and doesn’t believe in teams- you can keep the punk alive with this Spider-Punk closet cosplay build!
I’ll be completely honest- I’ve never really cared for Spider-Man as a character. I know, I know… Heresy. I understand his appeal, but he just never STUCK with me like other characters have. But I’ll say this–after seeing Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse with the BoLS crew last week, I’m eating crow: I’m now a huge fan of this Spider-Verse, particularly some of the amazing side characters that popped up in the movie. From Gwen to Pavitr Prabhakar, these characters are vivacious and inspiring. Today we’re diving into the world of rebellion and malaise with this Spider-Punk closet cosplay!
Hobart “Hobie” Brown was easily one of the most entertaining parts of the movie for me. Every line was sassy and sharp-edged. Every action was thought-provoking and nuanced. I found myself going “HELL YES! I’d cosplay THAT!!!” …so many times during the movie. While I’m too busy to cosplay right now, I’m getting my kicks building dream closet cosplay lists for you all. Enjoy, and remember- fight the power!
Spider-Punk Closet Cosplay: The Base Layer
The classic suit is an easy win for the base layers of this closet cosplay. You can go full suit or cut it up and use what shows, or you can go for something simpler and easier to source.
If you don’t want to go full-suited spidey, go for a simple fitted, spandex shirt. It gives the pop of color without committing to a more elaborately Spider-Man look. Keep those options open and your wardrobe versatile!
Spider-Punk Closet Cosplay: The Pants
I’m reliving my middle school and high-school years with these bondage pants. Hot Topic, eat your heart out. Hobie rocks the punk look through and through, and a great plaid pant (with or without the holes and zippers) is the perfect way to punk out.
Spider-Punk Closet Cosplay: The Vest
In the punk scene, a vest/jean jacket is one of the most sacred pieces of wardrobe. If you don’t have one, go to your local thrift shop, or order one online. But the point is, it needs to be personal. Put on patches, paint, pins, studs, or whatever makes you feel it!
Spider-Punk Closet Cosplay: The Combat Boots
As with the jacket, boots are a highly personal choice. Some go for clean and simple, some go for dirty and rough, some like to go platform, and some flat. Doesn’t matter what you rock, as long as you can rock out in it!
Spider-Punk Closet Cosplay: The Mohawk
Last but not least–the mohawk. You can leave this off if you like, or rock your own hair… Or you can slap one on a suit and call it a day! This is a cool option for something adhesive to elevate your cosplay to the next level.
Oh hey! BoLS might make a little dolla-dolla if you decide to buy these items. We need that money to bail Miles out of trouble and help repair the Spider-Verse, so consider clicking those links and perusing these closet cosplay items!
