‘The Boys’ Season 4 – Homelander Goes on Trial
Homelander’s actions in last season’s finale have gotten him into legal trouble. Vought is backing their boy in latest clips from The Boys Season 4.
Spoilers for Season 3 of The Boys Below
Last season ended with Homelander claiming his son and Butcher finding out that his use of Temp V is killing him. The two enemies are going into the new season with different views of the world. Butcher’s knowledge makes him care even less about his own survival and more about his personal vendetta. Homelander’s newfound parenthood makes him actually care about something. In Season 4 he’s facing a new enemy: the court system. He’s been charged with murder.
In two new videos Vought’s PR machine is in full gear to protect Homelander’s image during the trial. CEO Ashley Barrett and talking head Cameron Coleman weigh in…
The Boys S4 – What We Know
The new season brings back Antony Starr as Homelander, Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, along with Cameron Crovetti as Ryan, Chace Crawford as The Deep, and Jessie T. Usher as A-Train.
Starr has talked about the new season in passing – not wanting to give away any spoilers.
“… somehow [it] gets weirder and weirder and weirder. I was looking at the person I was opposite, and I said, ‘What are we doing? I can’t believe this! I could have done anything else with my life, but here I am doing this?’ It was truly the most bizarre thing I’ve ever done. There has to be a ceiling, but we can’t seem to find it.”

News has dropped about the new season has been thin. We know that Cameron Crovetti (who plays Homelander’s son, Ryan) is being bumped to series regular, which makes sense given the finale of last season. Jeffery Dean Morgan‘s schedule finally lined up for a cameo.
In August two new cast members were announced. Susan Heyward as Sister Sage and Valorie Curry as Firecracker. Not much is known about them. The studio has stated that details “will be kept under wraps until the season airs.” Neither character crosses over with the comics or the spin-off, so we’ll have to wait to see where their allegiances lie and what kind of diabolical schemes they’ll be a part of.
Butcher vs Homelander
While Starr and the cast have been sparing on details about their characters, showrunner Eric Krippke has revealed details about Butcher and Homelander.
“[Butcher] has a serious problem. He has a very loudly-ticking clock. He needs to get Ryan out of there, he’s hoping to still be able to destroy Homelander… what’s just really been interesting is when you’re really facing your own mortality and you’re really on the way out the door, you start really thinking about what’s important to you, and what do you want to do with the time you have left?
“So, he’s going to have to prioritize. He’s going to have to decide which of those goals are the most important to him and go after them, whether or not it’s what the CIA wants him to do or the other Boys want him to do. He has to focus on what’s important before he dies.”

When asked about the future of Homelander’s relationship with his son, Krippke didn’t mince words. The battle for Ryan’s future is going to be a big part of the season.
“No, Homelander’s a piece of shit, even if he cares for his son. If allowed to raise Ryan, he will raise Ryan to be a second Homelander, which will have apocalyptic stakes. If he stays in that environment, he’s on his way to becoming another Homelander. And so I think it’s a hint at what one of the major conflicts in season four will be, which is Butcher and Homelander having this battle over Ryan.”

Filming for the season wrapped in April. Krippke mentioned early this year – before the WGA strike – that this won’t be the last season. As we all know, that could be good or it could stretch the story too far. We’ll see. Rumors are saying Season 4 will drop early next year, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
