“That’s plenty to get your teeth into, including quarterly points updates and a new Balance Dataslate every six months – while some errata for the Index Cards are coming in July. Then there’s also the small matter of the Leviathan Tournament Companion, which the guys spend a while discussing. This is the last word on matched play in the new edition.”
Leviathan Tournament Companion
What the heck is the Leviathan Tournament Companion? Well, it’s all right there in the introduction:
So this document is designed and considered to be “the official way to play Warhammer 40,000 in a tournament setting” so be prepared to see this referenced a lot. They do go on to say that it “can be adapted to suit your own circumstances” and goes on to call out the terrain layouts in particular. So again, check with your Tournament Organizer if you’re planning to attend an event.
The pack itself is fairly comprehensive with a few card updates, a slightly reworked missions sequence, a “mission pool” section, the terrain layouts, and even pairings assistance.
The mission pool is an interesting concept that’s designed to help organizers build a tournament. It pre-matches the Primary Mission, Mission Rules, Deployment, and the suggested Terrain Layouts.
The Terrain Layouts aren’t a new thing as they have had suggested layouts before. These are fairly comprehensive and look really symmetrical. I’m sure these layouts are going to get a lot of use for many Tournament Organizers out there. But I also think that there’s a lot of tournaments out there that are just going to go with player-placed terrain or terrain based on their own collection. That’s okay, too!
If you’re going to play Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition then I’d highly recommend you check out this document. It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to step one foot inside a tournament or not — parts of this document are going to filter out to the community at large. Do yourself a favor and at least read the rules from the source first.
