Warhammer 40K: Tyranid Index Cards Out Now – The Hive Mind Hungers
The Great Devourer is coming to feast. Games Workshop has released the new Tyranid datasheets and you can download them for free!
Looks like we’re not going to have to wait very long for the new datasheets to start coming because Games Workshop has dropped the first of many. The Tyranids have been let loose and their Index is out now to download.
The Tyranids are swarming monsters that scour the galaxy for biomass. Their only goal, as far as anyone can tell, is to consume, create more Tyranids, and begin the cycle anew. In the new edition of Warhammer 40,000, the biggest hive fleet ever seen has begun to close its salivating maw around the galactic west, ready to carve a path to the tasty centre of the Imperium.

There’s a LOT to digest with this release of Datasheets and rules. There’s 94 slides to look over. Unfortunately the only thing that’s missing here is the points for the units. On the plus side we have a much better idea of what future Index releases will look like now.
Personally, I’m liking the slimmed down stratagem options and think the concept of just swapping out the Detachments to play a different version of the army is really cool. That said going over all these units and seeing what’s changed is going to take some time. One thing I’ve spotted right off the bat is that many of the options have shifted around and once popular options are just not there. For example, the Winged Hive Tyrant doesn’t have Devourers as a ranged weapon option any more.
I know I’m not the only one who’s going to have to swap out some weapon options now…that’s going to be tricky. It appears that if the weapon options weren’t in the box they are no longer valid — at least on the few units I was able to scan through quickly. That said, there’s lots of NEW options to chew on and new abilities as well.
When you combine these rules and the Core Rules you’re almost ready to actually play 10th — you just need points! Personally, I’m just going to use the old points until the new ones drop. They probably don’t match-up but at least it’s a guideline for test games.
