Many live-action characters have been written about in books and comics. But rarely, a character makes the jump from the page to live-action.

There have been many Star Wars characters over the years. And with more than ten movies, quite a few TV shows, and I-couldn’t-even-guess number of books out there, there are also many places for them all to show up. Fairly often characters from the screen will be written about in books or comics. But that seems to mostly be a one-way street. It’s not terribly common for a character to originate on the page and show up later in live-action. But it does happen from time to time.

Thrawn

The big obvious one of the moment, Thrawn‘s journey through canon has been a long one. He started as a Legends character- which is just to say that he suddenly stopped being canonical when Disney bought Lucasfilm. And then after years of being one of those characters that people really used to like, he can back into the Disney canon with Rebels. Since then multiple new books have come out, but next month he makes the jump from animation to live-action when Ahsoka premieres.

Coming with him is Captain Gilad Pallaeon, who’s one of those characters more casual fans may not even notice. But he worked alongside Thrawn in the now-Legends books, very briefly appeared in Rebels, and has already come back to live-action in the most recent season of The Mandalorian.

Black Krrsantan

This time coming out of the comics, Black Krrsantan was introduced in the 2015 Darth Vader comic series, which spun off nicely into the Doctor Aphra comic series. The Wookie bounty hunter is nobody’s friend, but sometimes he makes a good associate and partner to keep around. Especially since the alternate scenario is having him try to bounty-hunt you. Krrsantan made it to live-action in The Book of Boba Fett.

Cobb Vanth

We first meet the marshal on Tatooine in the Aftermath book series. But since his transition to live-action, he’s been a little bit of a fan-favorite and has appeared on multiple occasions across The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him pop up a few more times because he’s a great character and Timothy Olyphant is a delight to watch.

Aayla Secura

This one may be a surprise to some, but Aayla Secura appeared for the first time in a 2000 Dark Horse Star Wars comic. George Lucas personally picked this character off of a comic cover to come to live-action, and then she appeared in Revenge of the Sith, The Clone Wars, and as a voice-only cameo in Rise of Skywalker.

Tag & Bink

You may not know who Tag and Bink are, and honestly, that’s okay. They’re a little obscure. But you should know about them because they’re also pretty funny. Another addition from Dark Horse, they come from a comedic comic series called Tag and Bink Are Dead, which is a play on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, which is itself a Hamlet spin-off. All of this is to say that this is a weird, long-winded joke for a very specific sub-group of Star Wars fans and it’s me. I’m that fan. Basically, Tag and Bink appear in the background of vital moments from the greater Star Wars canon and just do background character stuff. They were supposed to appear in Solo but now exist only in deleted scenes that you can absolutely find on YouTube.

Who’s your favorite character who made the jump from page to screen? Did they make my list? Which character would you like to see come to live-action next? Let us know in the comments!
