Games Workshop has busted out their miniatures from EPIC to show off some direct size comparisons to the Legions Imperialis miniatures.

If you’ve been wondering about the size difference between old school EPIC miniatures and the new Legions Imperialis miniatures then this is for you! It’s time to do some 1:1 comparisons direct from Games Workshop. Rest assured, the Legion Imperialis miniatures might be larger than EPIC, but they are still very tiny.

Note: We’re talking about the classic Warhammer: Epic 40,000 when we use “EPIC” to denote it from Epic Scale which is what GW is labeling the Legions Imperialis scale miniatures which includes Adeptus Titanicus (2018) and Aeronautica Imperialis (2019) miniatures from the update ranges.

“… while the new models really are very small, their scale has slightly changed to match that of Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis – although as we’ll see, a “slight change” has major ramifications for this new wave of war. Let’s see how old and new stack up.”

Legions Imperialis vs EPIC Size Comparison

Solar Auxilia Infantry Comparison

These are going to be the smallest soldiers in the game as they are “normal” humans. You can see the Legions models are almost twice as tall as the EPIC miniatures — but again, that’s still relatively tiny. Additionally, you can see the base designs are different but are basically the same width, too. One big advantage with the larger Epic scale miniatures is that they do have a lot more detail which is something you’re going to see across the entire range.

Ogyrn Comparison

Here’s another really clear example. You can see the bases are almost the exact same height from this angle. And it’s pretty clear the height difference between the two scales. You’re also getting two Ogryns per base as opposed to five.

This image is very telling. We’ve got all the units with their counterparts from the previous versions. Again, double the size, lots more details, and round bases vs rectangle stands. I didn’t think the scales were that different but this one makes it super apparent.

Leman Russ Tank Comparison

The old EPIC minis for the tanks were really impressive at that size in terms of details you could actually see. That said the newer Legions Imperialis Leman Russ Tanks pack a lot of those same details but are just sharper and clearer at this scale.

I just want to point out that these zoomed-in pictures are great for showing off the details of all these miniatures. However, I think we might be losing just how tiny all of these are. The Rhino has it’s view ports painted in the traditional style of glass from the GW studio. Whoever painted those lenses is a madman and we salute them!

Baneblade Comparison

This is pretty wild. Seeing all those tiny Baneblades from EPIC is reminding me off all the variants of the Baneblade tank and now I want all of them in Legions Imperialis. Do you have a favorite of the batch?

Titan Comparisons

I feel like this comparison has been made before but it’s worth revisiting. It’s also the first good look at the base comparisons — specifically with the Reaver Titans. You can see the new, thinner bases vs a more traditional GW base to compare there. Overall, it’s just nice to see both sets next to each other. The Epic scale miniatures are oozing with details but you gotta give credit to the old Titans from EPIC because they also packed in a ton of cool stuff.

It’s been quite a trip down memory lane and I’m glad GW decided to showcase the differences in sizes across the board. I’m looking forward to the rest of the Legions Imperialis line!

Again: All of these miniatures are so TINY.
