MTG: MaRo’s SDCC Previews – Many Headed Geese, Brave Mice, And More
Let the rampant speculation and educated guessing begin! Here’s a look at the new art teases from Mark Rosewater’s SDCC Preview.
Every now and then you get a glimpse of the future and it’s so crystal clear, but devoid of the context you need to make the glimpse anything actionable. And while in real life that’s kind of tragic, because everyone should be able to introspect, spot their own repeating patterns, and learn and grow therefrom; in things like Magic: the Gathering it’s pretty awesome because it means anything is possible and now it’s time to be a detective.
So grab your inverness and deerstalker hat, and see if you can make heads or tails of these unnamed, yet revealing, previews from Mark Rosewater’s SDCC panel.
MaRo’s SDCC Preview – Honks And Bonks
Starting off with a Goose Hydra. Complete with manifold golden eggs in its terrifying nest. After Untitled Goose Game I think we all understand how dangerous this creature truly is. Anyway, this is almost certainly from Eldraine.
This guy, on the other hand, could be from any number of places. He’s driving a carriage and looks vaguely pilgrimmed, which is a good candidate for being an Innistrad. Especially since he looks like a sexy, younger Rutstein.
It’s saying something about how far Magic has come along that a guy with a magitek camera could be on many planes, from New Capenna to Ikoria to Kaladesh. And yet, here we are.
Pretty sure this is an Elden Ring boss that crashlanded in Ixalan. And if that’s the case, the set is going to be absolutely rad. Also worth noting, it looks like those giant bats are being ridden.
Red and white stripes? Unnecessarily spiky attire, lots of blades and barbs and spikes attached to a swirling cloak? This seems like someone straight out of Rakdos. Does this mean we’re returning to Ravnica in 2024? Seems like a safe bet, at the very least.
Okay there are ancient ruins in the corner. And a much more hydra looking hydra front and center, along with hot snake goddess. Going to guess that this is everyone’s new favorite Mommy card from Theros.
These poor goblins. Running away in sheer terror. This could be anywhere. There are some vague LotR vibes, but that could mean basically anything in Magic’s long catalogue of fantasy planes.
And then there’s this scene that seems to be straight out of Redwall. Does this represent another facet of Eldraine? Or an as-yet-unannounced Universe Beyond?
What do you think these are from?
