MTG: Three More Cards I Hope Are in Commander Masters

This set is already showing some bangers. Let’s hope there are one or two more powerful pieces from history there, too.

Say what you will; Commander Masters looks like an excellent set. From incredible reprints to jaw-dropping new art and some snazzy new commanders, this set seems well worth its hefty price tag. While the official preview didn’t show us much, it gave us a glimpse at some fantastic cards headed our way. However, a few mighty pieces were missing from the preview. They don’t want to show us everything immediately, but I hope we see them at release. These are far from the only cards I want to see, but they’re the big three on my wishlist.

Sensei’s Divining Top

A powerful staple piece in artifact combo decks, this unassuming little Top can go a little crazy once it gets spinning. You can funnel your entire deck with just a little bit of artifact cost reduction and some draw. That means you essentially search out whatever big piece you want. A typical combo with the Top is Mystic Forge and Aetherflux Reservoir.

If you’ve reduced the cost of your artifacts, you can cast the Top infinitely, generating tons of life gain from the Reservoir before you explode and take down your opponents. We saw a reprint of the Top in the last Masters set, and I think it would be a perfect addition to this set as a Mythic. Commander Masters wants to bring us iconic pieces, and they don’t get much more iconic than this.

Esika, God of the Tree/The Prismatic Bridge

A powerful commander that may have flown under the radar a little, the modal Kaldheim card is a surprising WUBRG beater with much fun utility. Esika herself is a decent mana fixer. She gives all your legendary creatures the ability to produce one mana of any color AND the coveted vigilance ability. However, if Esika leads your army, she’ll almost always be cast as her back half, The Prismatic Bridge.

Not only does it avoid most common commander removal by not being a creature, but it can also catapult your deadliest cards onto the battlefield for free. Whether you’ve packed your deck with Planeswalkers, Demons, Angels, or Dragons (like I did), you can cheat them onto the battlefield every upkeep, keeping your valuable mana free for your other spells. Since Esika’s color identity is everything, there’s no limit to the nasty tricks you can pack her deck with.

Kaalia of the Vast

Speaking of deadly cards that cheat big threats, the Mardu Murderess herself has become the bane of several tables across the hobby. Able to take out a player in a single turn by cheating in a Master of Cruelties, she’s become a kill-on-sight for a lot of EDH players. As such, she’s the perfect addition to the Commander Masters family and a worthy candidate for the gorgeous profile full art treatment. With the wealth of Dragons, Angels, and Demons available to players in the current meta, Kaalia would make a great mythic piece. Several players have wanted her particular brand of violence in their deck, and this could be the set to bring her back.

What cards are you hoping to see?
