‘The Wheel of Time’: First Season 2 Trailer – Five Things We Loved
A Wheel of Time trailer has dropped for season 2, and there are some things we really love in it.
Prime Videos’ The Wheel of Time season 1 wasn’t all we hoped it would be. That doesn’t mean we haven’t been looking forward to season two, however. Second seasons give a show a chance to correct itself, plenty of shows had weak first seasons and gone on to be cultural juggernauts. And a lot of the things we’ve seen from the season have us excited. Now that we finally have some real idea of what’s going on with the season, it’s looking like it could be good. Maybe?
Minor Spoilers Only!
That Seanchan Look
The Seanchan are the major antagonists of The Great Hunt, the second book of The Wheel of Time. They play a major role in the overall story and are a big deal. They are also looking like they are playing that same role in The Wheel of Time Season 2. And man, their look. The Seanchan just looks great. Everything about them is turned up to 11. They’ve just got a really unique and cool vibe. I’m here for it.
Horror is Back in The Wheel of Time Season 2
Robert Jordan is well known for putting elements of horror into his books. It was one of the things that really set them apart. Based on this trailer, The Wheel of Time season 2 is going to lean into that. We’ve got a few shots that really have amazing horror vibes. I think this is a great move.
The Introduction of a LOT of Important Characters
The Wheel of Time is a massive series with just a ton of characters in it. However, season 1 only introduced a portion of those. For some of them that was because they don’t show up until later. But, a number that do show up in the first book were cut from the season. Now Season 2 is looking like it’s going to be making up for that as we saw a ton of new characters in the trailer. We’d seen pictures of Aviendha in costume before, but for some, this is the first time really seeing them on screen.
Perrin and the Wolves
Not to spoil too much, but Perrin in the books has a unique connection to wolves. Each of the main characters kind of gets their own special thing/power and Perrin’s is… wolves. I promise it’s more interesting than that sounds (but not as cool as Mat’s whole bundle of things). His arc with the wolves started in book one but got cut out of the season. It looks like we are going to dig into it in The Wheel of Time Season 2 and that’s good. It’s a major facet of the character and we don’t want to leave it till too late.
Just the Whole Look of the Trailer
It’s not just the Seanchan, though they are a major part, but season 2, based on the trailer, just looks…. slick. We’ve got a ton of cool locations, some really nice shots, and amazing costumes. And it continues to look different. I’m all for the show standing out and being a different take on fantasy. This is just a trailer, but based on it I’m suddenly looking forward to giving this show another chance.
