‘The Witcher Season 3, Volume I’: Five Things We Loved
The Witcher Season 3, Volume I is out on Netflix, and there is a lot we loved about it.
Volume I of the third season of the hit show The Witcher is out on Netflix. As the final season with Henry Cavill the season had a lot of hype. It brings back together the iconic trio of Geralt of Rivia, Yennerfer of Vengerberg, and Ciri. Their found family continues its adventures across the Continent against a backdrop of politics and brewing war. The first half of the season has a lot to like about it, so let’s take a look at the best parts.

5. Dijkstra
Sigismund Dijkstra is a great character in The Witcher. As The head of Redanian Intelligence, he’s one of the top spies and political movers on The Continent. In Season 3 he’s a big player and gets a lot of screen time. And… he’s great. He’s a clever but not omnipotent operative. He’s got his strengths and weakness. Despite having a blind spot for some things, he’s also utterly ruthless and the way he controls his king is great to watch.
4. Jaskier’s Rival
Jaskier is a great bard and he puts out some real bangers. But for the first two seasons, he’s really the only bard that gets to shine. Season 3, Volume I however introduces a new thing to love. Jaskier gets a rival. Valdo Marx and his troupe show up in Episode 4 and provide a nice counterpoint to Jaskier. They are a great group and give something Jaskier to play off against professionally. It’s great to watch how he reacts to someone else getting the limelight.
3. The Witcher‘s Creepest Monster
One thing we loved about the Witcher Season 3, Volume I is that it had the most insane monster we’ve seen yet. In Episode three the Witcher goes up against this strange fusion of several innocent women. The headless beast seems to operate on its own, while the women are reduced to mere heads stuck on a wall and watching, and dying with the beast. It’s the strangest, and maybe the most tragic, monster we’ve seen in The Witcher to date. And we love it.
2. Jaskier’s New Romance
Towards the end of Volume I the bard Jaskier starts a new romance with Prince Radovid of Redania. Now some people have been up in arms online about this. A number of bigots were upset that Jaskier would get involved in a same-sex relationship. And like… what show have you been watching? Yes, Jaskier is a womanizer and sleeps with lots of women. But it’s pretty clear in the show that Jaskier will sleep with… well, anything.
Moreover, Jaskier as pretty clearly been in love with Geralt this whole time. He hates Yennefer because he’s jealous of her. He basically spells out his unrequited love this season. It’s not really a twist or a surprise. Now while I do like this direction, my only issue is that Radovid does seem a bit sus, and I really don’t want to see Jaskier get hurt again.
1. The Witcher and Ciri

This season gives us some more time to show Geralt and Ciri together. And they get to spend some nice time just being… together as father and daughter. Sometimes it’s just hanging out. Other times it’s slaying monster’s together. Everyone moment they are together is 10/10 no notes. I would watch a whole season of them just chilling and hunting monsters. It’s these moments that really give the show its heart and soul.
