With the Tacoma Open all wrapped up Games Workshop showcases an Adeptus Custodes list and what they are looking for in the Metawatch.

The WarCom team has put out the latest Metawatch article and video and it’s covering the events of the Tacoma Open.

The video is certainly worth the watch if you’ve got 29 minutes to spare. They cover a lot of ground about the event, 10th edition and other Warhammer 40,000 topics. But what we want to look at is the winning list:

Metawatch – Tacoma Open Winning List

That’s right folks it was an Adeptus Custodes list that won the show. It features the golden boys mixed in with some Imperial Agent support. This is a pretty smart play because it allows for some dirt cheap bodies to hold back-line objectives while the rest of the army pushes up. What really makes this army tick though was the fact that it could deal with mortal wounds via the Aegis of the Emperor detachment rule.

I take that back, it’s not what makes the army tick — it’s just what helps the army stick around so that they can KICK. And boy oh boy can the Custodes kick back hard. When it comes to fighting over objectives the Custodes can make quick work of most opponents up close and coupled with their own bulk and armor it make them even harder to dislodge. The Callidus Assassin was also clutch for the Reign of Confusion to force enemy stratagems to cost more. That might not seem like much but it can really junk-up the enemies typical plans when they can’t afford their go-to stratagems.

If you’re playing with an army that can take Imperial Agents you might want to see if you can fit a Callidus in your list…

This was a major GT and we really got to look at 40k 10th edition in primetime with the Tacoma Open. And we weren’t the only ones paying attention to the results:

As Stu mentions, the Studio are watching these results – and in particular the win-rate percentages – very carefully, and will be looking to make more targeted changes where necessary. The change to Aeldari Fate dice has already made an impact, as have points increases for overperforming units. Underperforming factions are definitely on the list for attention soon, so watch this space.

You can bet that as the edition progresses tweaks will be made. I wonder what they could be looking at next.

Hat’s off to the Adeptus Custodes for the win (and for taking second place as well). It was a strong showing for the Emperor’s Guardians!
