Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist – Big Smashy Chaos Daemons
Goatboy here and I’ve got a big smashy assault list of 40K Chaos Daemons that might be able to compete. Let’s offer it up to the Chaos Gods!
I got back from the Lone Star Open this last week. I played a Chaos Knights army with a few Flamers of Tzeentch, and while I enjoyed the list – I don’t think I enjoyed it enough to keep playing it. There was something off about it to me, and most likely had to do with how it just wasn’t too good in assault.
It was frustrating trying to slam into someone and then feel dismayed as my little Slaughter Claws did two wounds to the unit. I thought to myself – what is the poor little assault-happy Goatboy to do? Well, this dapper little Goatboy of course, decided to look at something else to play as he has a few weeks/months away from any relevant event to try out.

This leaves me looking at smashy Chaos Daemons. But I thought – what If I try to get the Soul Grinder to work? It is a big smashy Daemon, sorta tough, and throws out a decent amount of attacks. I also have a few and won’t lie they are something I have a soft spot in my cold black goatheart for. This goofy-looking dudes crack me up and their rules about being able to run over their big monster friends sound awesome.
So this leaves me thinking – how should I play them? Should I go crazy with a Mark, stack up some powerful abilities, and hope for the best? Am I just looking at Be’lakor to help me out and then pray my fat butts keep me alive on terrain? Wouldn’t it be cool to just wreck things with Iron Daemonic Claws of Doom?

Army List Tactics
The idea here is to throw a lot of beef in the middle, block the board, and then let my guys run around the sides and score objectives. A few big beasts come around to smack stuff, but I have enough damage to punch thru something big. I can’t just be shot from across the table, and assault pretty well. You throw a few things into reserves to Deep Strike later, the Changling is a pain in the butt (From experience… Nad turned off my shooting for 2 rounds like a jerk), and just I have a ton of wounds to chew thru.
It feels like something that could work, looks different, and seems fun. Especially since the Soulgrinders can walk over the other Monsters in the list for a surprise attack from behind their Greater Daemon friends.
