‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ – Everything We Know About the New Inquisitor Marrok
Ahsoka’s taken on Inquisitor’s before. And we’ve just learned a little more about Marrok, the latest Inquisitor-turned-mercenary she’ll face.
Ahsoka returns to live action later this month when the self-titled series premieres on Disney+. The show looks like it will be an almost direct continuation of the semi-cliffhanger that Rebels left us on in 2018. So we’re looking forward to seeing quite a few familiar faces. But it looks like we’ll be meeting at least a few brand new characters as well, including the dangerous and mysterious Inquisitor Marrok. Not much is known about Marrok yet, but a character profile was recently released. So here’s everything we know about the new Inquisitor we’re all about to get to know.
Inquisitor Marrok
“Once an Inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire, the mysterious Marrok now works as a mercenary hired by Morgan Elsbeth to carry out dark deeds. Fully encased in battered battle armor, the warrior still carries a red double-bladed saber with a circular hilt.” – Inquisitor Marrok Character Profile
This doesn’t reveal a ton of new information about this character, but what we do learn is pretty interesting. By nature, the Inquisitors are characters who were either forced to or keen to join the Empire after the fall of the Jedi Order. With the fall of the Empire, their normal jobs would have all but dried up, making them highly skilled and uniquely dangerous individuals with spinning lightsabers and no formal employment. Which is the perfect combination for a mercenary.
Now it seems that our new Inquisitor Marrok will be working as a mercenary for Morgan Elsbeth. Who, you may not recognize the name of, but we have met her before. We met Elsbeth on The Mandalorian in season two, episode five. This was the Kurosawa-inspired episode where we first see live-action Ahsoka Tano and watch her fight through some guards to press ‘The Magistrate’ for information on the whereabouts of Thrawn. Elsbeth is the Magistrate. Not much is known about her outside of this episode, but it’s implied very strongly that she works directly for and closely with the Grand Admiral himself.
So if Marrok works for Elsbeth, and Elsbeth works for Thrawn, we’re definitely not looking at one of Ahsoka’s new friends.
Who Was Marrok?
Obviously, this is a question we don’t have the answer to (yet). With some Inquisitors their identity pre-inquisitoring isn’t important and not something we ever do, or have to learn about. In other cases, it can be very relevant to the story. In Jedi: Fallen Order, for example, Second Sister turns out to be Trilla Suduri, who in her padawan days was trained by Cal’s second Jedi master, Cere Junda.
All we know for sure is that Marrok must have power on a level we don’t often see if he’s going to hold his own against Ahsoka, a character who we’ve seen take on and win against Inquisitors on numerous occasions. So Marrok could be a return of an Inquisitor we’ve met before, a relatability new Inquisitor born from a Jedi we met long ago, or an entirely new character.
Who do you think this new Inquisitor is? Which of the Inquisitors is your favorite? How long do you think you would hold your own if an Inquisitor was after you? Let us know in the comments!
May the Force be with you, adventurers!
