The Amazing Spider-Man Swings Into Action in New LEGO Set
LEGO’s Art series has added a 3D version of The Amazing Spider-Man that you can hang on your wall.
The three-dimensional set is inspired by a number of classic Spidey comic books that have come out over the last sixty years. The closest to the classic pose LEGO recreated is a panel in The Amazing Spider-Man #67 that hit stands in 1968. Mysterio shrinks Peter and traps him in a mini amusement park in the Stan Lee-penned issue. The art is by the legendary John Romita Sr.
This brick-built rendition is 3D–Peter is crawling out of the frame using posable fingers. The model also has a posable head that defies reason according to its designer Nico Vás.
“I still don’t understand how the head really works. The whole thing is built at a 45-degree angle, which is super strange. In earlier versions, it was built in a more grid-like, symmetrical way. It was much easier to understand, but didn’t quite have the right expression. And then somehow we came across this idea of rotating it sideways.
“And then that needed planning in 2D illustration software, it was like a grid snap thing to figure out: what do the shapes do when everything is rotated? And then there’s a lot of wedge plates that tessellate together. I don’t really know how that works, it just sort of seems to work.”
