Warhammer: The Old World – What We Want To See At The NOVA Open Preview
Games Works is supposed to show off some more info for The Old World. Here’s a few things we hope they show off.
This is part friendly reminder and part wishlisting for the upcoming NOVA Open Preview. Unlike many other Warhammer Previews Online this one is kicking off during the middle of next week. It’s a little odd but makes sense considering the event is going to happen that weekend and GW probably wants to focus on the gameplay streams and not worry about any preview leaks happening before.
Just be sure to tune in Wednesday evening (or real early Thursday morning) for the big show. We know what systems they are going to cover and one of the major ones will be Warhammer: The Old World.
One of the major questions we’ve all had was answered when GW showed off the Core Factions. The next big question that was answered was about the bases. And yes, those are going to be squares again — but slightly larger than before. And they’ve even started to dive into the rules as well — although that info is still pretty sparse and subject to change.
So with those major questions answered, what are we hoping to see? Let’s get into it!
More Models!
GW has been teasing Bretonnians and Tomb Kings and they have even shown off a couple models. That’s great — and we want MORE of that. What about the other factions? Are they going to bring back some old kits? What about new kits? Heck, what about existing kits? We can verify that all the Wood Elves and High Elves got pulled from the new Cities of Sigmar Battletome, so are those going back to The Old World? We need some answers.
A Road Map?
Look, we LOVE that GW has been making these beautiful maps of The Old World, we really do! But how about a Road Map for the release? Is this going to be a 2024 release? 2025? What other products are coming?
Even if it’s a generic looking map like the one for The Horus Heresy, that’s fine! Just let us know how long we’re going to have to wait for this one.
More Rules Reveals
We know that the designers are going back and playing through a bunch of the older editions of Warhammer Fantasy. That’s probably a good start! But at some point there’s got to be a particular edition they are using as the “core” for the rules. Knowing which edition they kind of “settled” on would be great news. We’re not asking for a 1:1 recreation of that rule set but knowing they are using X edition as the core and then pulling the “good stuff” from a bunch of other editions would be good. Specifics would be even better. And if they are just taking rules from all over, that’s okay — but if they showed off a list of rules and which edition it’s from that would be amazing.
Starter Box?!
I actually don’t know how far away this type of a project is but I know that this has to be something that GW has been considering. Even if they don’t show off a starter box if they teased what factions are IN the box that would be a nice tease. But also just dropping the actual box on us would be pretty darn sweet!
Bonus: Round Base to Square Frontage Converter Trays
They had them for War of the Ring…just sayin.
What are you hoping GW reveals about Warhammer: The Old World for at the NOVA Open 2023.
