New Blood Bowl Vampires – Hot Or Not?
The new Blood Bowl Vampire team is coming this weekend and it’s an interesting take on a classic.
I’m having a hard time deciding if I like the direction that Games Workshop has taken the new Blood Bowl Vampire team. Do I like the models more than the old team? Yes — but that’s probably a factor of the updates in technology allowing for some more dynamic poses. Individually, I do appreciate the models. But as a team? I’m not sure. I’m also on the fence with the overall theme and direction.
Blood Bowl Vampires – Hot Or Not?
On the one hand, I like parts of the models. The inclusion of the armor plates is a nice touch. It’s reminiscent of the Blood Knights from the current Soulblight Gravelord range.
On the other hand, I’m not sure I’m a huge fan of the “classic” vampire motifs with the billowing shirts and capes.
And I get it — these are supposed to be a nod to those early horror movie vampires. They are kind of campy and this is for Blood Bowl (which is an inherently campy/silly game). But do these cross some imaginary line of “maybe too much camp?” I’m not entirely sure.
Also, what’s up with the Thralls? Is it just me or are their arms a bit too unnaturally long? “Oh they are undead so of course they are unnatural!” Perhaps it’s just the shirts messing with their physical proportions.
Games Workshop goes into more details about the team and their creation. That’s worth a read if you want to dive into this subject a bit deeper. However, on just a surface level, I’m personally very torn by these models. I really like some of them but a few of them are just too far in that “campy” camp for me. Why does this Thrall have a bat on his arm? Are these guys Vampire Thralls or grave ghouls? Is that supposed to be distraction cleavage as a uniform “feature” for the runner?
Again, I like a how dynamic these models are and I like a few of the pieces here and there but as a whole…I’m not 100% sure about. So what do you think? Are you a big fan of the Vampire Team update or does this update kinda suck (on account of them being vampires)?
