‘Onimusha’ – Capcom Favorite Adapted to Anime by Takashi Miike
A new story set in the world of Capcom’s Onimusha comes to Netflix next month – with the prolific Miike at the helm.
Onimusha is one of Capcom’s best-selling game series. It’s set in the Sengoku period. It was a time of constant upheaval and civil war that came after the collapse of the feudal system Japan had been under. Samurai warlords fought for control created by the power vacuum. The action-adventure games tell stories that combine historical elements with the supernatural and have several protagonists.
The anime series follows a samurai named Miyamoto Musashi as he navigates the chaos. As he travels the countryside, he takes on warlords and helps those in need. Director Takashi Miike’s visceral style is evident in this first look.
Musashi is a character created for this series. He’s based on the legendary actor Toshiro Mifune, who starred in several of Akira Kurosawa’s critically acclaimed jidaigeki films – like Seven Samurai and Yojimbo.
Onimusha Cast and Details
The series’ CG animation was created by Sublimation with character design by Kim Jung Gi. Shin’ya Sugai and Takashi Miike are serving as directors.
Miyamoto Musashi is voiced by the Japanese actor and voice actor Akio Ōtsuka, whose prolific career includes Ghost in the Shell, Paprika, and Metal Gear Solid. The voice cast also features Toshihiko Seki as Kojiro Sasaki, Houchu Ohtsuka as Kensuke Matsui, and Daiki Yamashita as Sahei.
Capcom’s “Onimusha,” the landmark survival action video game series set in Japan’s feudal Sengoku period, is being adapted into an anime series that will start streaming from Thursday, November 2, only on Netflix. Directed by Takashi Miike, this ambitious series will focus on Miyamoto Musashi, who is modeled after Toshiro Mifune, the Japanese film icon known around the globe. This is the beginning of an intense series full of realistic action in which Musashi’s blade slices through evil as he traverses a land plagued by poverty.
Onimusha arrives on Netflix on November 2nd.
