Star Wars: X-Wing is getting new versions of the YT-2400 and TIE/sa Bomber. The new paint jobs are a big step-up!

The pre-painting technology for the Star War: X-Wing miniatures has had some big improvements since these two ships were released. Now, the new versions are benefitting from those changes. Atomic Mass Games goes into a bit more detail on just how those improvements were implemented in both of these ships.

New Technology For Painting Improvements

via Atomic Mass Games

Dallas Kemp, Creative Director: The big thing was the application of the tampo printing –  the process for applying the faction symbols and such. They’re more precise and delicate to enhance resolution and readability. After we saw the advances that made detail on Ahsoka’s Aethersprite possible, that led us to making some really nice paint application details on the YT-2400!

It’s also worth noting that when the original YT-2400 was created the ship hadn’t been fully depicted from all angles. According to Art Director Preston Stone, AMG pulled details from Star Wars Rebels and merged that with the previous paint scheme to make a hybrid version. This is a great nod to both versions with making the new one vastly different or unfamiliar.

As far as the TIE/sa Bomber it also benefited from the new technology. First up, the color of the ships was updated to match other Imperial ships to make them look more unified on the tabletop. The ship also got some updates to the engine lights which are now red.

Preston: The art for these two ships isn’t new, but the way they’re displayed is. Our Graphic design team did awesome work on the new card layouts in X-Wing, particularly for the standard loadout cards, and it has allowed us to show off the art for the game in its full glory. It’s great to see the art of X-Wing blown up large to see, as well as featuring the artist credits on each card. Our artists all do great work and I’m glad they’re getting some love and recognition for the work they do.”
