Warhammer 40K: Combat Patrol Space Marines Pricing Breakdown
The new Combat Patrol Space Marines is coming to pre-order. So is this one going to be a good deal or not?
Games Workshop’s new price point for Combat Patrols is $160. And we know the contents of the new Space Marine Combat Patrol. So will picking this one up be a smart move? That’s what we’re checking to find out today.
Combat Patrol Space Marines
Combat Patrol Space Marines Contents:
5x Terminators $65 (based on pricing post)
5x Infernus Marines (not currently available solo — estimated price based on Primaris Intercessors 5x squad cost: $30)
Terminator Captain (not currently available solo — estimated price based on Captain in Gravis Armour: $40)
Total Individual MSRP (estimated): $173
Total (estimated) Savings: $13
Hmm… that’s not exactly tearing-up the deals side of things from Games Workshop, is it? Also, taking a look at these miniatures and comparing them to the Leviathan launch box, I’m guessing these are also the same ones. Which means these are also push-fit miniatures.
Space Marines from Leviathan Launch Box
So I get that Games Workshop created the Combat Patrol from the Leviathan box. And that GW also wanted to balance out the Combat Patrol for that particular format of play. This might be a “balanced” force for Combat Patrol games — that’s all well and good. But I’m just a little disappointed in the pricing model for this one. I know that the points constraints means they couldn’t include the full Infernus Squad from a purely “consumer point-of-view who’s looking to get the most bang for their buck” tossing in the extra 5 miniatures would have been nice. And I don’t even like the Infernus Marines but the overall $$$ value would have been closer to what I’d be expecting.
Not even a full 10-man squad? C’mon, GW…
The actual pricing might change based on releases and you can’t get that Space Marine Captain in Terminator Armour anywhere else. And checking the GW website, I don’t even think you can get a full Infernus Squad anywhere else, either. But the point here is that even if the pricing isn’t 100% it’s going to be close enough that the overall “deal” on this box is pretty thin. Will it save you money? Probably. But it won’t be a huge discount like some of the other Combat Patrols.
So is this Combat Patrol worth it? If you missed out on the Leviathan box and want those Space Marines I think it’s probably worth it. That said…I don’t know how competitive this Combat Patrol really is. The Space Marines DID lose the campaign and these models were featured in it. Kind of a sad state of things when your Terminators and freakin’ Flamer marines couldn’t kill a bunch of lightly armored Tyranids…(and I say that as a Tyranid player).
These guys ate them.
Personally, I would have rather GW swapped out the Infernus Marines for the Sternguard and just made this a “First Company” box or something. Now that would have been an interesting Combat Patrol!
Combat Patrol Space Marines: I’m sure with the new codex this box will be better. But I’m getting a “we already have Space Marines at home” kind of vibe here.
