Goatboy’s Grimdark New Marine Armylist – Space Goats Stormlance Task Force!
Goatboy here with my first armylist from the new Space Marine Codex. The Space Goats Chapter try out the Stormlance Task force!
I don’t know about you – but the Space Goats were my first real “me” army. Back in 4th and 5th edition I decide to take the whole Goatboy nickname and create a Counts-As army of goat-head powered armored lunatics utilizing the Space Wolves codex. Thunder Wolves had been created and there wasn’t a model for them yet at the time. Thus the whole – throw a Goat dude on a Juggernaut became my jam and I threw that monster into anyone that was willing to fight that mess.
Why am I talking about this old army? Well the new Space Marine codex seems to have a detachment that is well suited for my brand of carnage. A detachment designed with shoving Thunder/Jugger Wolves into someone’s face, cackle madly, and hope you roll your hits well enough. It’s an army that is near and dear to me so figuring out a way to play it again is exciting.
I did redo my army a bit in 9th for the first LVO after COVID hit. I tweaked a lot of the models, got weapons right, and then proceeded to try and win with them. Lucky for me I won more than lost and thus achieved my goal with a pile of Goat-Marine nonsense. This time around though I think the army might be better as it is a true pressure force designed to get to the opponent, keep them in their deployment zone, and maybe score enough points.
With that in mind – it will be very Character heavy as the army has a ton of HQ choices to run around. I think utilizing the double set of Thunder Wolf Characters, named Characters, and even more Lone Op characters will help generate the nonsense I want in my army. It also means I have a ton of bodies coming at you quickly which is important for any pressure style list.
But here is the list utilizing the new detachment, aka…

Using the Stormlance Space Goats
This sits right at 2000 points and is full of assault craziness. Just so many characters rushing towards you, ready to punch you in the face, and maybe take your candy. I went with as many aggressive units I could whichare all about moving fast. The 3 Lone Operatives with an Assault Intercessor squad should help hold back field objectives as well as do some actions as needed. It’s a one sided list built to say – maybe Assault isn’t dead.
“I will be there with you at the end, for the Goat-time!”
