Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness – October 2023: Ork Nobz
Goatboy here with some 40K Meta Hotness thoughts. This past weekend saw an Ork Nobz list do well and I wanted to talk about it.
There are some interesting bits in the Ork index and it again falls into the pressure/smash aspects of the army pretty well. The unit we’ll get into is Ork Nobz and how a nice number of points gets you a very powerful smash happy little unit that can wreck whoever they hit.
Ork Nobz are the middle management of the Ork army. They are built to Micro Manage the boyz into doing the Warbosses dirty work and are designed as a hefty smash option for the Boyz. Normally you see them crowded up into Mega Armor as they gain a lot of cool benefits from wearing the clunky things – but regular Nobz are not bad either. Let’s dive into what makes them good.
Cheap Pile of Wounds
A Nob unit of 10 runs you about 210 points with 10 Power Klaws, a ton of bad attitudes, and 20 wounds of crumping action. As they are not clunky boyz they can even fit into a Trukk and easily go careening across the field. They jump out, get close, and start the snip snip of your unmentionables and stealing all your candy. Really the ability to have a ton of powerful close combat weapons in your army is a hugely effective reason to use them in your Ork lists.
Ork Nobz Leader Add-ons
Nobz can be joined by a Painboy to create a rather tanky little unit. The Painboy can get a Grot Orderly that can sacrifice itself to regrow some dead boyz, they get a 5+ FNP roll on the guys, and comes with a Powerklaw himself – thus completing the wave of damage nonsense the unit can do. That is a lot of Strength 9 snip snips ready to give your enemy a terrible haircut.
Waaagh THIS!
Remember how the unit can have Feel No Pain? With a called Waaagh you can also have a 5+ inv save, advance/charge, and then even better close combat attacks. Add this to the whole detachments sustain hits 1 ability and you start to see how this little unit can wash over you and wreck your face so thoroughly.
A Sample Ork Nobz Tourney List
Good ole Brad Chester took this list to the 2023 Michigan GT 40K Championshiops and got 3rd place. He was undefeated thru the event as well and just missed out one some Battle Points. Good job to Brad as he heavily utilized the bully nature of Nobz to wreck people’s faces.

Ork Nobz Tactics
As you can see the Nobz were part of the pressure build for this army. It’s full of MSU nonsense, and the sheer bulk of overwhelming Orky nonsense that is a true Waaagh rush. They come in fast, come in hard, and take all the dang candy you have in your apartment. Then they wreck your bathroom, leave a mess, and post about it in a TikTok saying your army sucks. This many Orks are a pain in the butt and Nobz are part of that pile of damage that is racing towards you across all fronts.
