Daemons of the Ruinstorm Army List

There’s a few thing you should know about this army list before you dive all the way in. Games Workshop has a Foreword about these rules:

The key thing here is that this army list is recommended for casual battles. If you want to run this army in a competitive event you need to check with the Tournament Organizer before hand. Personally, that’s something I would do if I was going to play any of the “non-standard” armies anyhow.

Aside from that, there’s more interesting notes about the army as well.

“Chaos as we know it from the Warhammer 40,000 setting wasn’t anywhere near as present or defined in the 31st Millennium as it would become later – readers will note that we don’t name the four Chaos Gods, or use such familiar terms as ‘Bloodletter’ or ‘Daemonette’. This is deliberate, as it helps keep these entities more mysterious and horrifyingly alien. Such Daemons certainly did appear in the Horus Heresy and are described in the Black Library novels as taking part in the carnage, but so too are a range of far less classifiable manifestations, which can all be imagined as the baseline types presented in each unit entry.”

Personally, I think this is an interesting take on these more infamous chaos daemons. The idea of running Bloodletters or Daemonettes as more “Generic” daemons isn’t entirely new. Generic Summoned Daemons used to be a thing in previous editions for 40k and this feels like a nod to that.

There’s also a lot of room for conversions with this army. This is something that GW did address as well:

It makes a lot of sense that if you’re using a particular model or unit of models to represent a “generic unit” that all of those same models should be equipped the same. As for the rest of the army list, it checks all the boxes for unit types you’d expect with the standard Force Org options listed. And while this army does have plenty of “generic” options there’s also a couple characters you can run — like Ka’Bandha Unbound!

Obviously this army list is going to have it’s own special rules and a few quirks to deal with but, again, it’s meant for casual games. It also opens up the option for people who have a Chaos Daemon army to dabble with the Horus Heresy, too. The more the merrier!

This is also not the final set army lists as GW has put lists out for Bound DaemonsCorrupted Knights, and Daemon Engines, too. We’re going to have to wait and see what that final list ends up being!

Get your daemons ready and call upon the Ruinstorm!
