It’s been a while since we spent time in the City of Guilds. I think it’s high time for a visit.

Welcome in, Praetors and Planeswalkers! 2023 is already shaping up to have a killer ending for Magic fans, with Doctor Who, Ixalan, and Lord of the Rings heading our way. However, 2024 is off to an amazing start as well. Ravnica, the City of Guilds, is a fan-favorite setting for both Magic and D&D, and has given us some of the most iconic characters in Magic history. So it should come as no surprise how hyped fans were at MagicCon Vegas to learn that Ravnica: Remastered would kick off the 2024 release block. With old favorites and a few new surprises, this looks to be a fabulous set. Every era of Ravnica is represented, and I can’t wait to crack some packs.

Anime Treatment

Love it or hate it, the Anime Treatment is one of the most dynamic alternate art choices in recent sets. Powerful cards are recreated in the style of Japanese animation, from epic heroes to adorable chibi cards. I love the look of them, and they add a bit of flair to your favorite pet deck. Krenko, Tomik, and even the perpetually lost Fblthp make an appearance, and they’ve never looked better. Like the cards from Wilds of Eldraine, these will be randomly sorted into Set and Collector Boosters and are likely to fetch a pretty penny. My fingers are crossed for that Massacre Girl print since she’s one of my favorite cards.

Retro Frame Treatment

For fans of more old-school cards, several Ravnica rares are receiving the Retro Frame treatment. These are a callback to the early days of Magic, and to the original release of several of the cards. Whether they will only be the Guild Leaders like Niv-Mizzet or Aurelia remains to be seen, but either way, they look amazing. There is ONE other set we know will receive this treatment, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

Shock Lands

That’s right, the infamous “Shock Lands” are returning in fabulous style. These are some of the most powerful cards in the set, and beloved of Commander and Standard players alike. The ability to have two types of mana on a single card is strong, especially in a deck with three or more colors. These lands will be making their triumphant return in Regular, Borderless, and Retro Frame treatment. Whichever version you pull, expect these to be some of the rarest and highest-value cards in the set. These will be the pieces to chase, but only time will tell if it raises the worth of current printings or tanks them.
