‘Napoleon’s New Trailer Proves Joaquin Phoenix is Destined for Greatness
Joaquin Phoenix charges into battle in the new gripping trailer for Ridley Scott’s new trailer for Napoleon.
Ridley Scott’s latest historical epic focuses on Napoleon Bonaparte. The French military commander and political strategist led campaigns during the Revolutionary Wars, leading to victories and his becoming the Emperor of France in 1804.
Instead of focusing only on the battles (of which there are many) and politics (there is a lot), this movie’s narrative is led by Napoleon’s relationship with Joséphine de Beauharnais, the love of his life. The pair married in 1796 and parted in 1810 due to concerns of the state, not for lack of love and devotion.
Joaquin Phoenix Embodies the Emperor
I get that Phoenix is too old to play most of the period being covered, but he’s a perfect choice otherwise and is going to chew all the scenery. I think this may lead to a second Oscar for the actor. See what you think…
While the story it sits on is one of romance, the trailers focus on the revolution. We’ve seen multiple large battle scenes – including Toulon, the Battle of Embabeh, Austerlitz, Moscow, and Waterloo. As well as scenes from the Reign of Terror. There’s a lot to cover.
The theatrical cut will do its best to cover Napoleon Bonaparte’s rise in power in two hours and thirty-eight minutes. If you’re skeptical, a director’s cut will stream on AppleTV+ after the theatrical run. Ridley Scott has said it will be over four hours long.
