‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ Meets Mortal Kombat in New Trailer
Scott Pilgrim, Ramona, and her exes are returning in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, a new anime based on the graphic novels.
I’m a bit surprised it’s taken this long for an animated adaptation. The source material is perfect for it–you can see a lot of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s art and scenes you just can’t do in live-action in this teaser. The combination of visuals and voice cast is bound to make long-time fans very happy.
Just like the live-action movie, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off follows the plot of the books. A hopeless romantic falls for a woman he barely knows–and fights her exes to be able to have a shot. The books are known for their art and surrealist old-school arcade setting, as well as their death-defying duels. All of these are present in this new trailer, plus a fitting Mortal Kombat esque introduction of the voice cast.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Cast & Details
The cast of the 2010 live-action movie is back and voicing the same characters. That includes Micheal Cera as Scott and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona. Plus, Chris Evans, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Alison Pill, Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, Ellen Wong, and Satya Bhabha.
It’s got an amazing team attached beyond the cast, too. Edgar Wright and Bryan Lee O’Malley (who wrote the graphic novels) are executive producers. Science Saru is handling the animation, and Anamanaguchi is returning to write the soundtrack.
“Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley.”
All eight episodes of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off drop on Netflix on November 17th.
