The new Legiones Astartes Battle Group box is a perfect addition to the launch box for the Horus Heresy.

Did you get a copy of the Horus Heresy boxed set? Are you looking to expand your forces and maybe round out a few things — or backfill the half you split with a buddy?

Well Games Workshop has some great news because the Legiones Astartes Battle Group is built for you. Or really anyone looking to jump into the Horus Heresy.

Legiones Astartes Battle Group

The Legiones Astartes Battle Group features 32 miniatures for the Horus Heresy. You’ll get 30 Marines in Mark III Power Armour as well as a Deredeo Dreadnought and a Land Raider Proteus. Additionally, you’ll get a set of Special Weapon Upgrades, too. Obviously, these Marines are legion agnostic so you can use them for Traitors or Loyalist Legions.

So what makes this such a great addition? Well, aside from all the Marines in Mk III, you’ll also going to get those Special Weapons which is a big deal.

I’m not sure if it’s just going to be one sprue or if you’re going to get two of them in the set but, either way, it’s a really nice boost. The reason is that if you already have all those other Marines from the starter box then you *might* be good on bodies. This box will allow you to add in a bunch of Special Weapon units to the mix now. And if you’ve been playing then you know how valuable those weapons can be when it comes to punching through enemy units.

Of course there’s also the Land Raider and Deredeo Dreadnought, too. But really it’s the fact that none of the models in this set are repeats from the starter box that I really appreciate.

Again, it doesn’t matter if you’re just adding to the full set or 1/2 the set, all these models are different from the ones from the starter. Maybe you got the Dreadnought instead of the Land Raider Spartan from the starter or the other way around: it doesn’t matter. Now you’ll have a different Land Raider and a different Dreadnought, too.

If you were looking for a way into the Horus Heresy then I’d recommend taking a look at the starter box and then adding in the Legiones Astartes Battle Group, too. That’s going to jump start a collection and get you well on your way to playing games in the Horus Heresy!

Personally, I like having different Marks of Power Armour to differentiate squads. How do you run them?
