Spiderverse may make comic book movies a little cooler, but this Spider-Punk cosplayer has been cool the whole time.

The Spiderverse movies are some of the best comic-book-based films I have ever seen. Between a flawless animation style, solid storytelling, and pulling characters into the main rotation who are otherwise almost unknown, this is a series that we can’t get enough of. The most recent movie, Across the Spiderverse, brought Hobie Brown–aka Spider-Punk to the mainstream. And it’s no secret that he’s quickly become many people’s new favorite spidey.

In the comics, Spider-Punk comes from an alternate version of the Marvel Universe where Norman Osborn. But Norman is Norman and he’s not any less evil with some extra power. Enter Hobie and his punk rock spider powers set to oppose President Osborn’s totalitarianism at every turn. In Across the Spiderverse, we don’t get quite as much backstory, but we can still see just about everything that makes Hobie who he is. And the fans love that.

Cosplayer Chris pulls Spider-punk out of her super-stylized animation style and into our universe in a way that still makes him look super-stylized! There’s a line between making a cartoon character look real and making a cosplay look like it could stay in that cartoon, and Chris manages to blur that line.

“I’m not a hero, because calling yourself a hero makes you a self-mythologizing, narcissistic autocrat!”
