The new models for the Flesh-eater Courts are looking impressive. It’s welcome addition to the Court of the Summerking.

The Flesh-eater Courts are the final Battletome update for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar’s current edition. But the wait has been worth it. They’ve gotten a handful of new (and needed) units as well as one of the biggest call-backs to The-World-That-Was in a long time. Ushoran is coming and his serfs are ready to serve up some gluttonous punishment!

Ushoran the Summerking

Can we just take a moment to appreciate this new model? Ushoran is an impressive sculpt. Not only is he a hulking figure but he’s got a lot of details and nods to his previous life. The artwork for him is also impressive:

This new character for the FEC is a fantastic addition to the range. First, Ushoran is a prominent figure for the FEC army. He’s THE Summerking — he’s the origin of the madness that makes this ghoul kingdom tick. With Ushoran getting a model it’s kind of a big deal. He really ties everything about the FEC together and it’s great that he’s finally getting to show up outside the lore and landing on the tabletop.

He’s also BIG. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but even the group shots show just how much he towers over the rest of the Court.

He’s dwarfing the Stormcast Eternals in this picture so hopefully that puts some things in perspective. I’m hoping that as we get closer to a release for him that GW will give us a few size comparison shots.

Cryptguard

I’m also glad to see GW updating the Ghouls. I know a lot of folks are confused as to why ghouls are using actual weapons and not just their teeth and claws. I get that — it’s what they had in the past. However, keep in mind that ghouls aren’t entirely undead. They got the taint for sure. It’s explained by GW here:

“But to properly become a mordant ghoul – or to join the ranks of the accursed vampires themselves – usually requires the ingestion of tainted blood, willingly or otherwise. “

It’s a little bit vampirism, a little bit magical corruption, and proximity to the overall madness of the Summerking. The are monsters to be sure but they aren’t mindless undead like zombies. And if Skeletons can still wield weapons then why not ghouls?

If nothing else, I’m just glad to see the FEC get some different options. I’m hoping these are Battleline for the army as it will give FEC players something else to send into the meat grinder.

Morbheg Knights

This is one of those units I didn’t see coming and I’m both surprised and glad they are going to be a thing. It’s a cavalry unit for the FEC that’s such an obvious choice after seeing it. Of course these “knights” would be riding crazy ghoul-bat creatures like horses into combat. These “noble steeds” are the a fantastic pairing with the FEC as they are a nod to the abhorrent side of the Summerkings forces while also being, well, bats.

With the FEC getting a mounted unit I really think the range has finally gotten all the foundational blocks of a full AoS army. And it’s been a long time coming.

Varghulf Courtier

It’s nice to see the Varghulf Courtier get a refresh. This is a good replacement for the Finecast version. It’s a bit sleeker and more lean that it’s predecessor. I’m guessing that just means it’s hungry.

This is one of those units I think folks will want to keep an eye out for. If it gets a rules update to match the new model I could see this thing being in a lot of army lists for the Flesh-eater Courts.

Abhorrant Cardinal

One of the new characters, the Abhorrant Cardinal is going to fill a gap the army has had for a long time. Having a character be able to toss out blessings is fantastic and I think that it’s going to be a good support choice in the new Battletome. Again, it just helps round out the army and that’s a good thing!

Royal Decapitator

Here’s another character that looks like he’s going to be a good character killer. That axe isn’t just for show! I have a feeling you’re going to see this guy show up to cause some killing blows to your smaller heroes on the board.

Abhorrant Gorewarden

The Gorewarden is yet another character coming with the army refresh. I really want to see the stats on this guy. I think he’s going to be a great option for a fast moving character that can deliver some buffs and a punch to the enemy’s front line. Those wings are telling me he’s gonna be fast, too!

Grand Justice Goremayne

Let’s not forget about the other character that was teased. The wig might be a bit much but this is another support piece coming to the army. I’m very curious to see how all these character options are going to come together to boost the prowess of the rest of the army. We might just see the rise of the FEC once their Battletome lands…

The first crack at these new models will be in the upcoming Army Set. Get ready for the next wave of Grand Alliance Death!
