Baldur’s Gate 3 will send your party all over the map as you wrestle with the Absolute. But the map? Surprisingly small. And exact.

Larian Studios have spared no detail in Baldur’s Gate 3, as players continue to discover in their many playthroughs of one of the year’s best games. Whether it’s learning that, even if you kill everyone, the game lets you get through to the end or discovering that the different origin characters have different voice lines that are class-specific. Right down to specific Vicious Mockery insults.

And while many of you are learning, for the first time right now, that you can change Astarion’s class, it goes to show how thoughtful and detailed Larian truly was with the game.

Case in point, the game is located in the Forgotten Realms. But rather than some nebulous place, as GamesRadar originally spotted, Redditors have been able to track exactly where the game takes place, which is absolutely wild.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Figure Out Where The Game Takes Place On The Map

Though naturally, spoilers abound, potentially. Unless you’re totally new to the game, it’s nothing plot-ruining.

Per a post from Redditor CommanderRasseru:

After some research, the game takes place here. This map marks best rough guess. This is where the game takes place on the Sword Coast of Faerün. The crash-site of Nautiloid ship, is kind of tricky to spot as it has to be on a large bend where the river goes north a way and for the river to be off the Grove’s East. But, not too near Fort Morninglord and Elturel. As big crash like that, may or would cause more people to investigate it. Plus, our tribe of tieflings had to be so far from Elturel; where it was also a risk to return as well. Moonrise Tower is place on the straight part of the river after a huge bend to the west. As the Sunrise Spire monastery is to the west before the big bend and the Rosymorn Monastery is some where to the north east.

The map highlights many things, including the river featured in the song that worms its way into your mind during character creation, which turns out to be the River Chionthar. But more importantly, it shows just how much stuff fits in the map.

It’s a very deep area rather than a wide one. There’s stuff to do everywhere, from exploring the Sunrise Spire monastery to the Moonrise Towers and even a jaunt into the Underdark, depending. The entirety of Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place in such a narrow slice of Faerun. Especially compared to the full world map.

This is a great reminder that your World Map doesn’t have to be big, as long as it’s got interesting things to uncover!
