Goatboy here. The new 10th edition Necron Codex has a Destroyer Cult Detachment – the well named Annihilation Legion.  Let’s put it through its paces.

While I know there are better Necron detachments out there in the brand new codex, I do like how the Destroyer cult can be set up. The Detachment grants all Destroyer Cult and Flayed ones the ability to reroll the charge roll, and if they are going after a Below Half-Strength unit they can add a 1 to their charge roll as well.  As you can see this is all about getting your units there, starting to chop things up, and wreck face. I just always like the nonsense of a sect of Necrons that have some kind of murderous super Virus that makes them even angrier.

The Annihilation Legion detachment gives you 4 new Enhancements that give you things like the unit gains a 4+ fight on death, critical wounds get an extra pip of AP, unit in engagement range can’t fall back on a 3+, and then causing Battle shock tests in engagement range.  I like the Fight on Death and extra Pip of AP as the ones I will look at taking. But if I have enough points, I might take them all.

The Detachment gets 6 Stratagems that all cost a single CP to use, which is a good thing.  We have one that lets you get a -1 to hit when targeted by the enemy in the shoot or fight phase.  We have one that lets you get better at hitting things that are half-strength or below.  We get Reanimation protocols to active after killing something in the fight phase. There is one that lets you consolidate 6” instead of 3 if you haven’t fought yet. You can cause some mortal wounds to an enemy unit that falls back from you.  You even get one that lets you do a normal move after losing some models from your enemies’ shooting phase.  All of these seem pretty good and are designed to showcase a murderous crazy set of robots.

With that – let’s fill this army full of crazy robot nonsense.

Using the Necron Annihilation Legion

This is a pretty simple armylist to use. You got your Epic Hero bullies running around, your Destroyer options slink thru the battleground, and you have 2 Destroyers to help drop in and score stuff as needed.  It might be a little spread thin, so watch out for casualties. You don’t have a lot of bodies to spare. But it will look pretty dang sweet on a display board with all those C’tan – right?  It does make you want to look at other 3rd party sculpts for the C’Tan but still – it will be an Epic looking army list!
