Legions Imperials: Is It Finally Go Time For Epic Horus Heresy Action?
Legions Imperialis is finally coming to Pre-order this weekend. Is it finally go time for Warhammer: Horus Heresy on an Epic Scale?
It feels a little like a fever dream for Legions Imperialis. Earlier this year Games Workshop was really hyping things up for a Summer release, then things got quiet. The kept teasing new units and models but, once again, the game felt like it was going to be released at some far off point in the future. But now that future is here and the light at the end of the tunnel can be seen.
I don’t know about everyone else but I’m excited for this one. While I am looking forward to giving Legions Imperialis a fair shake within its own core ruleset, I’m going to be completely honest: I really just want to play Horus Heresy at the Epic Scale. I want to field 100s of Space Marines on the tabletop and I want to experience The Horus Heresy games I’ve always had in my head.
I like The Horus Heresy just fine how it is at 32mm scale. But I already know that the fans of both it and Epic Scale are going to be cooking up conversions for playing Horus Heresy with the Legions Imperialis miniatures. And I’m looking forward to doing that myself.
There’s just something about the idea of maneuvering and positioning 5,000+ points worth of Horus Heresy armies but with the Epic Scale that really appeals to me. There will have to be abstractions for units because, hey, they are all on a single base — but that’s okay. At least for me and speed of play.
There’s also the idea of building and playing a 2000 point Horus Heresy game with a “standard” army list, but playing in Epic Scale. I’m here for the SmallHammer, folks!
Plus idea of a city board at that scale with all the terrain from Legions Imperialis, Adeptus Titanicus, and even Aeronautica Imperialis (which had gun emplacements) sounds amazing!
Also, if you’ve ever wanted to play Horus Heresy games with Titans, you’ll be able to do that as well and for a much smaller price tag! This is another feature I’m really excited about. Bringing a Warlord Titan to a standard Horus Heresy game requires some logistical planning. But at the Epic Scale? If you can transport a normal Knight, you can transport a Warlord Titan for Legions Imperialis!
I know that Epic: Horus Heresy isn’t the thing being pushed by Games Workshop. They probably want folks to buy these models and play Legions Imperialis using the Legions Imperials rules. And, again, I’m looking forward to checking that out. But once you get these models, guess what: they are you models. You can do whatever you want with them. And I’m planning on playing Epic Scale Horus Heresy with them!
Are you going to play Legions Imperialis but also Epic: Horus Heresy? Let us know in the comments!
