‘Fragged Empire: 2nd Edition’ Out Now – Adventure in Post-Apocalyptic Space Today
Space might be the one place left uncorrupted by capitalism, but even space gets post-apocalyptic in Fragged Empire 2E.
A year and change ago, Fragged Empire: 2nd Edition made a sizable splash on Kickstarter, delighting players with its promise of “post-apocalyptic, sci-fi” action in a unique setting. After a cataclysmic, galaxy-wide war, people are just starting to re-emerge into space to discover the remains of what had come before. It’s either post-apocalyptic or post-post-apocalyptic, depending on how much pedantry you want in your genre taxonomy.
Regardless, Fragged Empire: 2nd Edition is out today for wide release from Wade Dyer of Design Industries, published through Modiphius. This means even if you didn’t back the crowdfunding campaign and are just “sci-fi curious” (and who isn’t, in this economy), you can still grab a copy and explore.
Fragged Empires: 2nd Edition Launches Today
“Fragged Empire is a setting where your people are returning to space following a century of hiding during the aftermath of a galactic war where the Nephilim and the X’ion master successfully defeated the Archons and their servile nations. It’s a universe that leans heavily into themes of cultural tension and exploration, with a dash of transhumanism, nation-building and a hope for a better future.
“A typical game of Fragged Empire will see you and your friends take on the role of a character from one of eight core species. You will join together to form a ragtag band of misfits who travel around the sector in a spaceship, taking odd jobs and getting into trouble.
Inspirations for Fragged Empire include: Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, the Millennium Falcon scenes from Star Wars, and a little of The Expanse.“

2nd Edition Fragged Empire offers a wealth of tweaks over the old edition. There are new player options, more tools for the GM including options for running different styles of campaign from “space bandits” to “survival horror” and more, and new spaceship creation rules. If you’re not familiar with the game, it’s a classless system with plentiful customization options.
