Ready your Pipboy, collect your caps, and turn on to Diamond City Radio. It’s Fallout: The Board Game!
Fallout: The Board Game is an adventure board game in the likes of Skyrim: The Board Game, which, in retrospect, makes a lot of sense. There are multiple scenarios to play, quests to complete, monsters and ghouls to fight, loot to earn, and all the way, you’ll find out what makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
Fallout: The Board Game Overview
Fallout doesn’t mess too much with the foundation of how these games typically work (which is a good thing). On each player’s turn, they get two actions. They can Explore to reveal an adjacent facedown map tile, they can Move to move two spaces, deal with a random Encounter, complete a Quest, Fight monsters, or set up Camp.
But since Fallout: The Board Game does take place in the Fallout universe, players also have to deal with things like radiation. They can use their V.A.T.S. in combat, earn perks and traits, and more. Each time a player levels up, they will gain a new S.P.E.C.I.A.L. token. But if they draw a token they already have, they gain a new perk instead.
As players complete quests, they will gain agenda cards to be kept secret to the other players. Each agenda card grants 1 influence but also offers additional influence if the player meets a certain condition. This system introduces just a hint of hidden score without it being completely veiled. Knowing how many agenda cards your opponent has gives a good idea of how far along they are, but with some degree of uncertainty.
Obviously the perks, traits, quests, scenarios, and everything else in Fallout: The Board Game are lifted right out of the video games. If you’re a fan of the Fallout series, this is one to add to your collection.
