It’s a big week for things to get real small. Epic battles return as Legions Imperialis gets its massive tiny miniatures pre-order release.

Scale is real tricky in tabletop gaming.  Because there’s a limit to how much space your table can take up and still be practical to play around. And yet that leads to some seriously weird calculations. Like a heavy machine gun only having an effective range of 60 feet.

And compensations for scale also mean that, unless you’re playing really big games, you’re touching but a fraction of the epic, planet-wide battles that define war in the 41st Millennium. But these epic encounters are at the heart of the new, and clunkily titled, Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Legions Imperialis.

Legions Imperialis is epic scale game of mass battles, where you can field Titans and not feel bad about it. And the new boxed set accompanying the launch is full of new minis.

Legions Imperialis – Tiny Miniatures, Epic Battles

First up, there’s the new box. This comes with everything you need to get started, including miniatures, a rulebook, dice, tokens, etc. etc.

There are 233 miniatures across 61 individual models in the set, giving you plenty for both a Legiones Astartes and Solar Auxilia army.

If course, if you don’t want the box, much of it will be available individually too, starting with the Core Rulebook, where you’ll find the rules and unit profiles for Legiones Astartes and Solar Auxilia armies.

Speaking of, the Legiones Astartes army launches with a big range of tiny options. Like the Astartes Infantry box, which comes with eight squads of Tactical Legionaries, four Contemptor Dreadnoughts, and an assortment of supporting troops. You get the full breadth of infantry options: Terminators, Support gunners, and Assault Squads, all led by two Legion Command Squads.

The Kratos Heavy Tank squadron comes with four tanks, as the name implies.

Rhinos come in herds of 10, to help your troops get where they’re going safely.

The Thunderhawk Gunship is back from Aeronautica Imperialis, all it needs is a new base for Epic and you’re good to go.

Solar Auxilia Models

Meanwhile, the Solar Auxilia come loaded for bear with the best humanity has to offer while still being humanity and not transhuman super soldiers. The Solar Auxilia Infantry box is fully loaded with lasrifle and flamer troops, as well as Charonite Ogryns, Aethon Heavy Sentinels, and Veletarii, all led by an Auxilia Commander and their Tactical Command section.

And of course, there are plenty of Heavy Tanks. The Baneblade company gets you two tiny mammoth tanks that you can outfit with Baneblade or Hellhammer cannons.

And returning from Aeronautica Imperialis are many familiar aircraft, including favourites the Lightning Fighter, Marauder Bomber, and Marauder Destroyer.

Meanwhile the Adeptus Titanicus Titans make for perfectly scaled Legions Imperialis titans. And with some Forge World resin, a number of models return.

All this, plus terrain and more, next week!
