Blood Bowl: New Skaven Star Player Screams ‘Convert Me’
Is this new Blood Bowl Star Player even meant for Blood Bowl? Because he’d look right at home in Warhammer propper.
One of the things I appreciate about Blood Bowl is that most of the time, the miniatures look like they belong on the pitch. There’s typically some type of attempt at sports gear — cleats, pads, perhaps a ball — you know, something that indicates they are a player on the team. Even the chainsaw wielding gobbos have a helmet or pads. But in walks Skitter Stab-Stab and I can’t help but think “he’s not really there to play Blood Bowl.”

Just looking at this miniature, if I told you that this was just a new Skaven Assassin model with no other context, could you even tell it was a Blood Bowl Star Player? I mean, I guess the “shoulder pads” could be the only clue that he was.
His “helmet” is really just a strap of leather which fits most Skaven helmet designs. And he’s leaping off of what looks like an Ogor Mawtribe’s gutplate.
“This new miniature is an update on the classic Star Player from the early 2000s, depicted bounding off a discarded ogre gutplate brandishing his twin knives. His cloak is stitched with tons of little blades, billowing out into the wind as he launches himself at another poor victim.”
Emphasis added — but yep. That’s exactly what that is. There’s no real “Blood Bowl” player motifs here. That said, he’s really just a freakin’ Ninja, right? Skitter Stab-Stab is a Master Assassin. And just like all Skaven Master Assassin’s he’s got a look he’s going for.
If I were a Skaven player in Age of Sigmar I’d probably want to get this model and just use it as a Master Assassin. I’d also probably just paint up a unit of Blood Bowl models as Gutter Runners or something and use those in my Army as well — although that’s just me.
I just want to say I’m not really mad that this new Star Player looks like he belongs in a Warhammer Army and not on the Blood Bowl pitch. It’s a cool miniature. I just think he could have used a bit more “Blood Bowl” in the design.
What do you think? Could this model have used a bit more “Blood Bowl” in it’s design or is that the entire point of a Skaven Master Assassin?
