Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist – Space Goats go Stormlance Taskforce
Goatboy here and with a mean, masticating Space Goats list. The Braying Legion is running as a Space Wolves Stormlance Taskforce and will chew things up and spit em out!
As I finish up some World Eaters nonsense on my personal table I have to think – what’s next for the Goatboy? What do I try to bring back? What do I even work on in between client work, illustration, and keeping my kids in line? What kind of high-pressure list should I wax poetic on next?
Right now, it seems to be the cycle of returning to Space Goats again. I always cycle back to them and even took them a few years ago to an LVO and won more games than I lost. This time around, I think they might be ok from a pressure standpoint and at the very least I wouldn’t make an Ironstorm Spearhead list like all the other Space Marine ones we see.
I could try a Vanguard Spearhead but I don’t think a bunch of sneaky marines on foot is a very Space Goat sort of thing. I would also need to rebuild a lot of things as again – the old Space Goats/Space Wolf nonsense was full of Thunder Wolves and things that tried to punch you to oblivion.
Which of course leaves me looking at the Stormlance Task Force because it loves stuff mounted, gives you advance/charge, and it has Storm in its name so it sounds awesome. The more I look at it and the more I think of how I want to play, this seems to be the way to go.
Modernizing the Space Goats
Now as the list was built before, there would be a lot of “clean” up to get things right. I would have to figure out some more Thunder Goats as the old style had them in units of 5 and the new one is either 3 or 6. I keep thinking 6 because it’s awesome, it’s part of the theme, and it’s totally awesome.
At the same time, I also want to throw in some Dreadnoughts too. I know it isn’t nearly as good as other lists with them, but if I am throwing a crap ton of Thunder Wolves down the line I need some fat butts to sit in the back. This means building out some Dreadnoughts that won’t die to some long-range shooting, can bully the backfield, and in a pinch Advance/Charge and wreck your face.
The final piece is of course, some Scouts because they are one of the cheapest units that can push the Deployment Zone out and maybe help you from getting hit by Calgar and friends. It also just lets you do some fun push back, first turn scoring, and is a unit you don’t care enough about to sacrifice for a counter punch as needed.
I didn’t want to add any special characters to the army either, as this is all about Space Goats and not Space Wolf characters that somehow got goatified. There are a few, but again I wanted this to be pretty simple in setup. If I was going to go all in and rebuild this list up I need to keep it simple.

Using the 10th Edition Space Goats
This is a pretty simple list. You have things you push forward into the enemy. You got units that sit in back and are a pain to remove. This lets you hopefully control the game and win the game. You can use terrain to move around, get some crazy assaults off, and just pressure the opponent like the Space Goats Gods intended.
