The Horus Heresy team has cooked up a new Exemplary Battles mission for fans of the Mechanicum to try out. Liberation awaits!

The Liberation of Constanix II is the latest Exemplary Battle from Games Workshop. This one pits the forces of the Raven Guard against the Imperialis Militia, but with a twist: both forces have access to some Mechanicum support. The big difference is that one side has traditional Mechanicum back-up while the other has some Daemon Engine “upgrades” helping them out.

“A number of new Provenances that can be taken by Imperialis Militia armies are included, theming them after the types of mortal forces found on Constanix II, as well as those from other forge worlds. This gives players the chance to field some very different types of units in their Mechanicum force. In common with the existing Imperialis Militia, this army list offers some intriguing new conversion and kitbashing opportunities.”

Exemplary Battles – Liberation of Constanix II

If you want to play this one straight from the “history” books then you’ll want to have one force of Traitor Mechanicum fielding Daemon Engines with Imperialis Militia. In this particular case, it’s really more Imperialis Militia with Daemon Engine support…but whatever. We’re just getting pedantic here. This side will be the Defender in the scenario as they are protecting lapetus. The Attacking force is going to be Raven Guard and Mechanicum forces pressing the attack.

Naturally, you can play this scenario with other armies standing in if you just want to use the rules. But there are some special rules that make a lot more sense with the forces provided from the lore.

The Additional Provenances of War apply to the Imperialis Militia Force Commander. These rules represent the boons provided to the army that held ties to the Mechanicum and there’s some nice boosts in there for sure.

As far at the scenario itself, it’s really a classic Capture and Hold mission with some variances:

The deployment uses the Hammer and Anvil setup and also take note of the Objectives placement as well. When the end of the game comes the victor is the side with the most Victory Points so keep those VPs rolling in if you want to win this one!
