Journey back to the City of Guilds for a murder mystery the likes of which the Multiverse has never seen!

Welcome in Praetors and Planeswalkers! Magic has recently unveiled the next set, and it’s already shaping up to be a grand mystery! Murders at Karlov Manor sends us back to the much-beloved plane of Ravnica, where a series of terrible murders has taken place.

As the head investigator, it’s your job to oversee the investigation and ensure the culprits are brought to justice. However, you could also be covering for the crooks and helping them perpetuate a deeper murderous scheme. Whichever side you choose, you’ll have tons of new heroes, old favorites, and wicked tricks to outwit and outplay your opponents.

Murders at Karlov Manor – New Heroes

Several new characters are joining the ranks of Ravnica’s elite, primary among them the face character, Alquist Proft. This crack detective is leading the investigation into the grisly deaths surrounding the Karlov estate. He’s assembled quite the team to help him crack the case, new faces and old. He also brings the Detective creature type into the main set, having first been introduced in Universes Beyond: Doctor Who.

He won’t be alone, though, and several more investigators are rumored to show up as more of the Karlov mystery unfolds. Of course, no mystery is complete without a group of plucky young sleuths, and even without their titular companion, these meddling kids are exactly what the doctor ordered.

Returning Favorites

Alongside the new heroes are several classic favorites from Ravnica’s past. No pursuit of justice would be complete without the Boros exemplar herself, and Aurelia is reimagined in glorious fashion. Among the other suspects are Etrata the Dimir assassin, Izoni the Golgari Priestess, and Voja of the Selesnya.

Was one of these shady figures the culprit? Or is another force working in the shadows to sow chaos? If anyone knows chaos, it’s the titular lord of the Rakdos Cult, and anathema to Aurelia, the big man himself.

Like Aurelia, Rakdos is reimagined in perfect form. His new card plays into his demonic nature, and he makes your opponents make a terrible deal; sacrifice their army or risk giving you power. Whichever guild you repped back in the day, there’s someone you’ll recognize making an appearance. But are they friend or foe? Only time will tell.

Clue-themed Cards

Alongside the standard release is Magic: Clue Edition. Fans of the titular mystery game will recognize their favorite characters, locales, and murder weapons, reimagined as in-universe cards.

I’m a big fan of the Lead Pipe card specifically, and I can’t wait to get a Commander damage win while it’s equipped. Perhaps most exciting, however, is the reprint of the classic Ravnica dual lands, each one representing a potential murder location.
