Legendary bounty hunter and father to millions of the galaxy’s clones, Jango Fett’s legacy was one that was destined to outlive him.

If you’ve watched the animated shows, it’s nearly impossible to not be absolutely smitten with at least one Clone Trooper. And for all of that, you can thank one of the galaxy’s most famous bounty hunters, Mandalorians, and dads: Jango Fett.

Jango Fett’s Early Life

Jango Fett

Jango Fett was born on Concord Dawn, a world in the Mandalore sector of the Outer Rim. He was raised as a foundling to be a warrior and cut his teeth as a Mandalorian Commando during the Mandalorian Civil Wars. After his time as a commando, Fett decided to take his training and distinct Mandalorian armor and pursue a career as a bounty hunter. As a result, the Prime Minister of the New Mandalorians wrote him off, claiming that he was just some bounty hunter with stolen armor.

The Galaxy’s Premier Bounty Hunter

Thanks to his training, armor, and twin blasters, Jango quickly rose to prominence as a bounty hunter. For a short while, he worked with Zam Wesell, Hondo Ohnaka, Aurra Sing, and even mentored the legendary Cad Bane. This notoriety would not only get him his choice of jobs but the attention of the Sith.

In 32 BBY, shortly after the Invasion of Naboo, Lord Tyranus—also known as Count Dooku—approached Fett about being the genetic template for a vast army of clone troopers. Jango agreed in exchange for a hefty sum of twenty million credits and an unaltered clone to raise as his son. This child would grow up to be Boba Fett, another of the galaxy’s most infamous bounty hunters.

Father to Every Clone

After this, Jango Fett stayed on Kamino to raise his son and help supervise the training of the clone troopers. Despite being nearly genetically identical to the clones and raising one as his child, Jango felt no particular attachment to the clone troopers. Still, he was heavily involved with the design of their training and upbringing.

Boba, on the other hand, Jango raised as his own. Albeit with a somewhat nontraditional family dynamic. Jango continued taking bounty hunting jobs, sometimes using these jobs as a way to train young Boba in the family trade. Even as a child Boba proved to have inherited his father’s skill and intuition and began making a name for himself at a young age.

The Final Missions

One of Jango’s last jobs was an assignment to assassinate Senator Padme Amidala. He subcontracted this out to Zam Wesell, who in turn failed and was very nearly taken into custody. Before she could reveal who had hired her, Jango killed her from a distance and left the scene. But Obi-Wan Kenobi managed to track him back to Kamino nonetheless. Kenobi attempted to question Fett about the clone army and the assassination attempt, but Jango deflected towards a mysterious Tyranus before fleeing from the Jedi into space with Boba.

Shortly after this, Jango captured Anakin Skywalker and Amidala, who had been attempting to rescue Kenobi who had also been captured by the Separatists. The resulting Jedi rescue mission almost immediately escalated into the first battle of the Clone Wars. Jango Fett was killed in this battle when Mace Windu beheaded him.

His legacy would live on though, as his son literally took on his mantle and became a famous Mandalorian bounty hunter all his own.
