One ship carried a crew of misfit bounty hunters across the solar system in style (if not wealth). But before bounties, what was the Bebop?

In the year 2071, a bounty-hunting crew consisting of a former gangster, a former cop, a newly reanimated 77 year old, a child prodigy hacker, and a “data dog” were involved in some of the biggest events of the Solar System. From an attack by the Space Warriors that would have turned Ganymede into monkeys, to a vicious internal struggle within the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate, to the eventual shut down of a TV show for Bounty Hunters, this crew—and their ship—were at the heart of it all.

But what was the Bebop? Where did it come from, and how did it come to be embroiled at the center of the Solar System’s turmoil in 2071? The answers to some of these questions lie on the terraformed moon of Jupiter known as Ganymede.

The Bebop – Design And Capabilities

First and foremost, the Bebop was an interplanetary spaceship. But not just any ship, it was an interplanetary fishing trawler. Originally built to work the seas of Ganymede, the Bebop was hardy and surprisingly big for a Bounty Hunter’s vessel. The ship’s original purpose can be seen in the amphibious design: the fore of the ship has a V profiled hull, while the aft section has wings resembling a trimaran ship.

This made the Bebop capable of landing in the water, despite its size, coming in at 476 ft. long, and weighing 1730 tons, and that’s when not hauling a cargo load of freshly caught fish. Though once former ISSP Officer Jet Black purchased the

It was 142 meters long, and weighed in at 1567 metric tons, with an expansive hangar/cargo bay, used to haul its catches before the ship was bought by former ISSP Officer Jet Black. After Black purchased it, the Bebop mostly hauled its crew, and a solitary Ganymede Rock Lobster.

Modified engines gave the ship more thrust, allowing it to outrun most other vessels around its class. While most of the interior design as minimalist, the bridge and main hangar of the ship resemble the bridge of a fishing vessel, and were home to the upgraded communication system installed by Black.

The Bebop’s main armaments were two rocket anchors and a pair of powerhands, allowing it to grapple other ships—handy for bringing bounties in alive.

Bebop – A History

Originally a fishing trawler, little is known about the Bebop before coming into the hands of its captain and owner, Jet Black. After purchasing the ship Jet Black met Spike Spiegel and the two embarked to become bounty hunters.

The Bebop crashes onto the scene en route to the asteroid Tijuana in pursuit of Asimov Solensan, a Red Eye dealer and former Syndicate member on the run. Not long after, Black and Spiegel and the rest of the Bebop’s crew end up enmeshed in notable events throughout the Solar System.

The Bebop put a stop to a virus attack on Ganymede, which would have devolved the moon’s entire population into monkeys. It was also involved in a raid on the drug trade on Mars, and was seen near the destruction of an orbital casino.

As to its ultimate fate… well, you’re just gonna have to carry that weight.
