‘True Detective: Night Country’ Trailer Teases Supernatural Mystery in the Frozen North
True Detective: Night Country focuses on a mystery with supernatural vibes set in the deep darkness of Alaskan Winter.
The next chapter in the series moves far away from swampy Louisiana, corrupt Ventura County, California, and the woods of Arkansas. This new chapter takes us north to the frozen north.
True Detective: Night Country centers on two detectives, Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro, attempting to solve a genuinely haunting case in Ennis, Alaska. The town is shrouded in darkness for several weeks at a time during the depths of winter—”the long night.” Eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station disappear under strange circumstances during the last sunset. All that remains are their shoes at the edge of the frozen wilderness.
There’s a little supernatural in there, with the sudden disappearances in the dark and the cold and mysterious symbols (that look familiar). The shoes pull up images of the shoes found around the Aokigahara forest. The location could play on all the weirdness surrounding the Alaska Triangle.
It has the feel of the amazing first season that pulled all of us in. Let’s hope that True Detective: Night Country‘s writing can match it–the cast is undoubtedly there.
