Warhammer 40K: One Big Bummer About The New Striking Scorpions Kit

The Striking Scorpions are getting a new plastic kit and it’s fantastic. But there’s one issue regarding this kit that we need to discuss.

In case you missed the announcement or the news about the release of the next Kill Team box here’s the summary: The Striking Scorpions are getting new plastic miniatures! The kit is great looking and we’ve got tons of options for these mighty aspect warriors. You can go with or without helmets and you can have various wargear option for each miniature.

That said, I have one issue with their release. What I really liked about previous aspect warrior updates is that GW would also update their respective Phoenix Lord with them as well. Look at the Howling Banshees and Jain Zar.

That was a welcomed one-two punch of a release from GW. Not only did they update the Howling Banshees (who needed it) but we also got a fancy new miniature for Jain Zar. And what about Maugan Ra and the Dark Reapers? Not only is that a sweet band name, but they also got updated at the same time and it was awesome.

Both of these releases were great because not only did the aspect warriors get updated but their matching Phoenix Lord did, too.   And let’s be real here: The Phoenix Lords need updates.

Two down…four to go.

So now we get to my issue: Where’s the new Karandras miniature?

I’m not talking about this from a lore perspective. We know that Karandras went “missing” helping to defend the Ynnari in the Webway. But that’s the thing about the Phoenix Lords…it’s hard to keep a good one gone for long (unless you’re a Warp Spider, but we don’t talk about that). Besides, how cool of a story would that have been? Have the new Striking Scorpions come back from the Webway with Karandras in tow? Then we get both the new miniatures for the aspect warriors AND their Phoenix Lord. Seems like a winner to me.

So yes, that’s my big issue — I was hoping for a new Phoenix Lord to match the new Striking Scorpions kit. Their new miniatures are great and I really hope that Karandras gets a much needed glow-up to match.

Have you seen this Phoenix Lord?

What do you think? Would you like to see Karandras or do you think he’s “dead” for good in the Webway?
