Warhammer: The Old World – Tomb Kings and Bretonnian Core Boxes Announced
Games Workshop is not letting off the gas as we approach 2024. There’s some big, new things heading to a tabletop near you!
I hope everyone had a happy and fun Christmas and that you’re all well rested. It seems like GW is feeling good after the holiday in preparation for New Years because they aren’t resting on their laurels. There’s a ton of new stuff coming to The Old World. Let’s check out all the new stuff coming soon.
Warhammer: The Old World – Core Boxes and More
If you were expecting a single launch box that was half Bretonnians and half Tomb Kings, well, guess again! For Warhammer: The Old World, GW is trying something completely different. This time around they are launching a pair of Core Boxes that have a single army PLUS all the stuff you need to actually play it — including the Core Rulebook!
“There is no single launch box for Warhammer: The Old World. Instead, there are two separate – and massive – core army boxes, each containing a full 1,250-point army with dozens of all-plastic miniatures each. On top of that, you get a complete 352-page hardback Warhammer: The Old World rulebook, a four-page reference sheet, 20 D6 dice, one six-sided scatter dice, three weapon templates, two classic red plastic measuring sticks, and transfer sheets.”
Tomb Kings
This box features the new Undead Necrolith Bone Dragon with either the Liche Priest of Tomb King rider (the unused rider can then be built as a foot hero). Additionally, it also comes with another 91 miniatures for 93 in total! There’s 40 Skeleton Warriors, 32 Skeleton Archers, 16 Skeleton Horsemen, and three Skeleton Chariots. And yeah…those are the exact same sculpts you think they are.
Bretonnians
The Bretonnian box comes with the new Lord on Royal Pegasus who can either be a Duke or Baron. Additionally, it has another 75 miniatures for 76 in total. There’s 12 Bretonnians Knights, 36 Bretonnian Men-at-Arms, 24 Peasant Bowmen (with defensive stakes), and three Pegasus Knights. There’s also a Transfer sheet with 176 transfer — perfect for decking out your knights in knighly icons.
Even More Old World Goodies
As mentioned above each box comes with the Core Rulebook. The book itself is 352 pages and has “Core and Advanced rules for the game” as well as “rules for casting spells” in game. And of course there’s all the lore and background in the book. And it wouldn’t be a Core Rulebook without a fancy ‘Eavy Metal paint spread!
Also included in the boxes are “Arcane Journals” for their respective army. These include “history, heraldry, maps, special characters (including a certain undead emperor), magic items, spells, a historical scenario, and thematic Armies of Infamy which let you select armies of very different compositions. ” That means they will have your 1250 point army build ready to go for you right when you pop these boxes.
More Tomb Kings Inbound
The Tomb Kings are also getting a handful of new miniatures to match the Bretonnians. I do wonder if we’re getting these in resin or plastic as the majority of the new stuff for The Old World has been resin. The new plastic kits are included in the Core Boxes and none of the other new kits were.
Nekaph, Emissary of Settra is coming as a new miniature to the game also. “Armed with the enchanted Flail of Conquered Kings, Nekaph, Emissary of Settra, pulverises those who refuse to kneel before his immortal liege.” It’s a good looking miniature for the Tomb Kings.
There’s also a new Battle Standard Bearer for the Tomb Kings as well as new Tomb Swarms coming, too.
Also, GW dropped this tidbit, too:
“On top of all of these, a full range of classic Khemri miniatures will be returning to bolster the forces featured in this article, with much more to come in the future.”
That’s great news for fans of Warhammer: The Old World (and any of you old grognards that still have your Tomb Kings army). Looks like you’ll be able to bring it all back to the tabletop soon!
There’s lots more coming for Warhammer: The Old World in 2024. Stay tuned!
